:) I have been reading the TDR site for 6 months now and have realized that it is time to start the bombs. My wife has recognized this and endorces my efforts to spend our money.

Now to the problem, out of all the bombs to do I have selected one that isn't too hard,(I think) except that I can't find it. I would like to start with changing the rear drum brakes to disk brakes. I have found them for the 1500 Ram with antilock but nothing bigger. Does anyone know if there is anyone out there making a disk brake conversion for the 2500 and 3500 Ram?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

Changing over to rear discs is doable but very pricey. Larger 3500 brake cylinders will improve your stops and only set you back around $80.

There are a few disk brake conversions around, but very pricey (2K+). You could use the newer rear disks off a 2500,but they won't just bolt on,and again would probably cost a bundle to buy all the parts and modify the rear axle housing.

illflem has the right idea, add the larger rear cylinders first. You can also bypass the rear height sensing proportioning valve for more braking power as well. Dodge sell a hose just for this purpose. See the TSB for details

This bomb is coming up on my list too. I would like to find rear discs as my rear weight runs 200%+ of what the front is. I did find a rear 1ton axel with discs from a ford $3,000  I'm still looking for the right way to go.

Call Piers....

Al @ PDR told me that he does them for around $1000 INCLUDING parts AND labor!:--) I think he uses Chevy rear discs. That's not too bad if you ask me... . Makes that EGR rear dics conversion seem like a rip off!

If you go to Chrysler, the part number is 04761603 on the larger wheel cylinders. Or any jobber or parts house (NAPA,Pep Boys) should be able to cross it over to their number. If not just tell em it's for a 1997 3500,as that's what the larger cylinder was designed for.

Thanks for all the info. I guess that this bomb is a little more involved than I thought, not to mention a fair piece more expensive than I figured. I guess I'll move on to something else.

Once again, thanks

rear brake pads?

I'm getting ready to do a rear brake job on my '97 and have a few questions.

If I buy the larger cylinders, should I get 3" pads, or are they standard, or do the 2nd gens even use them?

I've converted our 1st gens to larger wheel cylinders and 3" pads, I just don't know what 2nd gens use, on 3/4 or 1 tons, as I am new to these trucks.

Anyone?

If you a upgrading a 2500 the larger cylinder number is Wag F79767, for the 3500 upgrade the number is F79768. depending on the year the 2500's may already have the larger cylinders.

Goodell--The 1st gen trucks have 12 in brakes--the 2nd gen has 13 in drums-----Sam
