Installed DDIIs and a Pyro in a 2001 Auto last night. Install went pretty slow, but it's done. The truck already had a fueling box on it (PM2). I'd like to know who designed the goof-ball wastegate system on the HY-35? That thing makes it impossible to get the turbo off the manifold without first taking the wastegate "hardware" off. That's the most hokey mess I've ever seen!

Anyway, as many of you already know, the EGT's get real high, real quick now. The tiny lawn-mower turbo on the autos is so choked up, it gets way too hot, way too soon.

Will an HX-35 easily replace the HY? I'm sure many of you have already gone this route. I'd like some information before we do anything else to this truck.

Ross, take things easy with the Go pedal for the time being and junk the HY35 unit at the first opportunity - In the meantime, talk to Piers Harry regarding the replacment HX35 unit. I'm using the 12 cms version and there's also a 14cm version too.

Whilst you're at it, why not check out Bill K's place? - he's got the perfect 91% medicine :p :D for your VB & TC, which are now somewhat challenged.....

In fact if you've got the time, why not make the pilgrimage to the pacific north west and get a complete overhaul. I made the trip earlier this year and have zero regrets. This is the way that your truck should have rolled off the production line in St. Louis IMHO.

Good luck!

Yup. I've already ordered the TC and Valve Body from Bill K. In fact, it should have been here days ago... ... .

I've purchased things from Piers in the last few weeks, but only goodies for my 1998. I guess I'll look into something for this 2001. I still can't believe the turbo on this thing, and the way the wastegate is actuated. It looks so cheap!

I've posted a "want ad" in the classifieds looking for someone's takeoff HX-35. Maybe there are some out there cheap????

HY-35

I too have the hy35, I am useing the spring/turnbuckle method and see about 25 boost. And see spikes up to 32 with the comp on 5. The hx35 would be much better.

You next "BOMB" should be a Piers HX35!!!! I imagine a 12cm² housing would do you just fine. It will spool up just as quick as your lil HY35 does (least in my mind). Using the DTT convertor you will experience some "lag" in the begining tho. I can make smoke like in my avatar picture if I want with a standstill WOT run. Yes its kinda exspensive but well worth it in my opinion. I couldn't imagine having an HX40 on this truck with these inejctors and the 91% convertor... .
