I have to pose this question because of my flaming case of Bombitis. Where do you think these two meet?

I keep worrying more & more about the dependability of the lift pump and injection pump. I already see a Fuel pressure gauge in my future, as well as a Pusher Pump to help keep this truck dependable. What do you guys think is a happy medium in upgrading?

Awhile ago I asked the question what makes a TC 89,91 or 93%?. At the time I had said to myself "all i'll ever need is an EZ & DDII's" (Yeah right) So I decided to go with an 89% TC. Well if & when I upgrade to an Edge Comp or an FMS Wizard Box I'm going to need the 91% TC. But I may not decide to go this route if my dependability is in doubt. I certainly wouldn't want to be cruising cross country and have my injection pump/turbo/lift pump blow up because of my bombing tendencies.

What do my friends here think?

Thanx, Kevin M.

I have DD3's,a comp, and an 89% TC,I do not plan to change convertors,I wouldnt call a 91% an upgrade, its just different compromise. My Dad has the 91%,if therei s a difference in the 2,you would need a dyno or dragstrip to tell. Mine is a little more responsive, smokes a hair less,I get slightly quicker spoolup too. Once under way,his dont seem any different than mine. Id like to drive an identical truck to mine to really feel the difference. My truck with 3's ,comp,4. 10,s an 89% is lively and quick,Dad's with dd2's,EZ,3. 55's and the 91 feels soggy, and slow by comparison so its hard to truely tell. Id be much more worried about the internal upgrades (HD 2nd band, better 3rd seals, and 5 clutch plates) than the 89%.

I can't comment much on bombing versus dependability. The more horsepower you use, the less dependable your truck will be. Notice, I didn't say the more horsepower you have.

For the question about the torque convertor. Adding power to your truck doesn't require you to get a tighter torque convertor. I have about 470 HP right now without the propane and I'm running an 89% TC. I had a 91% for about a year and a half. Personally I like the 89 better than the 91 for driving around town. I honestly can't feel anything is lost on the top end.

The torque convertor choice depends on each user. I see you have larger tires and stock injectors. You would have more turbo lag off the line than someone like Fred Swanson and his supermental injectors.

How you drive and what you use your truck for is a bigger factor in selecting a torque convertor than simply how much power you have.

That is a very good question... . I figure that where I am right now (see my signature) is about as far as I want to go on a daily driver that is my only transportation. Right now I know my truck is capable of breaking the input shaft off in the transmission and huffing the turbo if I tried hard engouh. I just take it easy and have fun.

Whoa! Now don't go giving the VP44 more credit than it deserves. This sensitive injection pump can go out anytime without notice, it doesn't matter if your bone stock or highly bombed. A bad load of fuel can wipe it out.

Just do the best you can to monitor the fuel system.
