ATS back in truck with billet and new tq conv

Fuel additive

Now what? Phase One of performance and convenience modifications is done. What do I do now? I do see things in Geno's catalog I could use but they would be all just cosmetic improvements and even if I went all out on those including chroming I still would never win a show and shine contest.

Phase One was plug and play.

Phase Two would be really costly, such as cam (do I need one, no) and if I were to get a cam then I would need to O ring the head and I might as well have it ported also. Spendy. Twin turbos? For my application, why? Would have to sell at a loss my turbo mounted PacBrake and buy an inline brake.

Maybe Phase Three is just, "if it ain't broken, don't f%*^K with it. " My truck is running sweet. Well, I guess I could change the brake fluid if I get bored.

If anyone has any suggestions on what other products I could get or on how to sink more money into this money pit truck, please let me know.

BTW, my signature is not all inclusive on what is done to my truck.

Roger

How about a Water/Meth injection. It's not that I think you need it, it's just that your truck is setup a lot like mine, and why not have you try it instead of me... :D

Paul

You can come on out here to MN and help me..... I'm on my 3rd headgasket in 2 weeks. Either the head is cracked or the block is warped. Initially I'm not showing either. The low spot I can find on the block is . 0015. I get roughly 250miles out of a headgasket right now..... So I'm looking at... . Get the head decked. . get the block decked... . as long as the engine is appart... balance and blueprint... . get Haisleys 5k gsk and valve springs... ..... Oh yes... . some ricer is gonna die!

Josh

NAWWSSSS!!! :D

I dunno Roger, sounds like you have it tuned how you want it and it works well. I say leave it alone..... or at least until some new gottahaveit comes down the pipe.

You could always buy a 12valve :-laf They're fun to play with.

Paul, you know I have been considering water/meth but then by stepping down to my DonM 1. Purrfect EDM injectors I don't think that I will need them as I believe I can run cool enough towing. Besides, I think that YOU should try it first. I have a brand new tow strap that Rip gave me and I don't live all that far from you. I would have a concern about more boost/drive pressure than I already have.

Zach, good to hear from you. You are right about the gottahaveits or the new flavour of the month. I could see a variable vane turbo as an option down the road if they were to perfect one for a Cummins.

Things I have considered then decided against:

Locking rear end, but they are not good in snow nor towing/backing applications.

Silicone boots - with only 41psi boost I don't think I need them

Water/Meth - head gasket issues

Propane - head gasket issues

Nitrous - head gasket issues

(see a pattern here with regard to drugs?)

Hot Rod VP44 - why would I need it

Billet Input shaft - already have one because of exhaust brake

Billet output shaft - don't need one now since I quit racing on the drag strip

New exhaust tip? - I have a big Hog 6". As Rip Rook is prone to say, "If your gonna smoke, show em where it's coming from"

Wait a minute, I've got it. I should chrome the sheet out of it (engine area of course). There was an old hot rod saying back in my younger days that went "if it don't go, chrome it!"

Yeah, you could try to give ol JohnnyT a run for his money in terms of custom work. That would keep you occupied from now to the end of time :-laf

Maybe focusing on the truck to much, what can you BOMB on the 5er?

rcone - i noticed in your info that you have an auto, but saw no mention of a transmission temp gauge? thats a fairly low cost item that you can install. itl give you an idea on what you transmission is doing/not doing.

hey Roger, sounds to me you have too much money and way too much time :-laf

we all know there is no ends to mods

enjoy and have fun !!!

DM had a good point "chrome wont get you home" also when you chrome something like valve cover's, it acutall holds heat in that's something to keep in mind.

Hey Diesel-- I put those chrome piston return springs on, bee-itch to install, hours of labor, best thing, nobody really knows if you got em or not... ... ... ... .

You got some nice upgrades :D I am geting ready for gauges asap but after that im holding out till i get enough money saved for the trany upgrade$$$$. Thats going to take some time and patience  Its so tempting to just buy box and plug it in but my trany would not last long with my hamering on it. I guess this adiction for more power has no cure :-laf

Yeah, heat and drive pressure are my concerns too. Thanks for the tow strap offer, might need to take you up on it sometime. I have a tow strap too (not new though), so if you need help sometime... .

There is no such thing as to much money. I don't have very much. What I do have is OCD (Obsessive Compulsive Disorder) and my truck is my hobby. Bowling would be cheaper by far and away.

Not bragging but here are other things on my truck that are not listed in my signature.

transmission Temp Gauge

ATS 3pc manifold (ceramic coated)

DSS

Geno's tool tray

Larry B Heat shield

Uniden PC68XL pumped up w/Master Blaster Attenae

Air Lifts

Garmin 2610 GPS Receiver

HD idler pulley and Gatorback serpentine belt

Lift Pump on frame rail w/custom shield

Mystery switch

Blowby bottle gone

Extender tube for fuel filter drainage

5ver louvered tailgate

TDR and American Flag stickers

Things tried and rejected. Relocating IAT Sensor, Grid Heater Saver.

Things being considered:

Backup sensor (Dodge bumpers are a POS especially when you back into a 150 year old oak tree you know who wins.

Replacement fuel tank w/TraxII when available (supposedly available for diesels 1st quarter of 2005 from TransferFlow.

Optima Batteries

Roger

Ps. I started this thread mainly to inject a little humour in our pursuit of enthusiasm/fanatacism for our trucks. And... . seriously ideas are welcome. But also, the thread might be of help to newer members as to some of the mods myself and others have, have tried or are thinking about.

Please indulge me

I think that it is appropriate to name some special aftermarket vendors that have contributed to the success of my personal project. They are listed in no particular order.

DTT

BD

TDR/Geno's

DSS

City Diesel

DD

PDR

Practical Solutions

PacBrake

LarryB

Wildcat

ATS

Edge

Marco/Doug/Bob Wagner

DonM

and last, but not least Rip Rook (www.sourceautomotive.biz) who has done a lot of the wrenching on my truck.

Thank you one and all for your advice and letting me spend my hard earned money with you. ;)
