Okay sometime while at work, i closed at night, either Monday or tuesday the toolbox on the 92 was cleaned out, to the best of my knowledge it was locked, either way im wondering if anyone has added some other measures other than locking their tool box, and i am not to much worried about liability either, as far as im concerned the next time they open my tool box on the bed of my truck should be the last time they decide to five finger discount it.

Dang!! sorry to hear about that. I don't have any particular ideas, just sympathy for the situation. Mine got nabbed while on vacation years ago. I was lucky and my homeowners insurance bought me new tools cause I could prove forced entry into the truck.

Kinda feels personal like, doesn't it?

Good Luck and I'll think some bad vibes toward the perp.

Ken

And here I thought a "boobi trap" was a bra. Seriously, it make you feel raped to have someone get into you personal stuff and take what they want. I had it happen may years ago. I would like to keep a rattlesnake in mine. Best you can do is get a strong heavy duty tool box with a good lock. I like Weatherguard tool box, although no tool box is 100% safe.

Its to late now, but I put a latch on mine so I could use a padlock. Its better than the locks that come on 99% of these toolboxes. Won't stop boltcutters, but they wont pry it open.

You could insulate it from the truck and plug it in like a block heater! My grandfather did that to a garbage can that he had a neighborhood dog getting into, he got the dog at 4 in the morning, forgot to turn it off and got the garbage man at 7 in the morning:-laf

Oh lordy, you know there is nothing worse than being robbed, i probably wouldn't mind it as bad if i knew it was random, but in the past month and half i have been hit and run and now my toolbox cleaned out and with my background(work that is) i am very suspicious as to the reason. Needless to say where i am supposed to park the camera's aren't covering, i let them know at work yesterday that i would not be parking there and i would be in camera view from now on regardless.

LOL. Old people rock!

My neighbor tripped and fell in the snow attempting to climb some steps to get to my house that had a fresh 8"s of snow. She's like "I'm all right, i'm the moron that should of known there was an extra step there". She's a nice old lady. :)

i would think some randomly placed rat traps would be a surprise, but only if they're hitting you in the dark. then you could just look for the guy with the fresh cast on his hand. (or a good steel trap, just look for the guy with a stump:D )

I don't know about boobi traps, but a lot of aftermarket car alarms have optional switch inputs. They're normally used for hoods and trunks, but I'm sure you could rig one up to a tool box. Won't take of an arm or anything, but it might scare the **** out of them. I mean, who really expects a car alarm on a tool box!

When I was a kid, We had a horse that would push its way through the electric fence and get out. My dad got ****** off one day and put the wires into a 110 outlet . The horse got shocked and never tryed it again. Problem solved! Doug

Use a door switch from a car and mount it to the tool box lid. Then you can wire it to a switch then to the horn, or if you already have a car alarm then wire it to that.

How about a hidden latch the you use and a make the normal latch a dummy switch that zaps, irritates, or your choice anybody that tries to use it.

To hell with the rat trap..... how 'bout a Newhouse bear trap..... would take the hand right off.

I had a chain saw stolen, one night two months later I was 150 miles away from town on the freeway I see a guy pulled over with a trailer full of wood. The wheel bearing was gone. I shine my lights on the trailer to help, as these guys jack the trailer over, off to the side of the roadway, so they could leave it for the night. We got the trailer over, and while unloading the saws and chokers off the load, I pick up MY saw..... it has my name on the bottom.

I was fighting mad... . but thought enough to start a conversation. They happen to live in my town. I got names, licence and such. I loaded it into their truck, with the thought that they might have more stolen stuff back their house. If I fought them to get the saw, I might not win, and the situation would be worse. I was so wound up I could hardly drive when I got back in my car. I got back to Missoula Mt, I went down to the police station... 11 Pm. The dispatcher told me I had to come in in the morning. I told her that I had names, and an address that I looked up in the phone book... it had all checked out. She couldn't do anything. I thought I would never get my saw back.....

I called Monday morning with the information. I got a call Thurs saying that they had my saw.

I couldn't believe it. So it pays to pull over and help people. :-laf

I went ahead today and checked pawn shops and nothing, the tools were not new so i didn't figure i would hit on anything at the shops, while in town i decided to go and have a police report done, unfortunately i am not able to recover any damages from insurance as the cost of the deductible is more than the tools, but i did go by work and picked up a commercial grade hasp and a contractor grade master lock, needless to say you can see that the tool box is heavily shackled, i have my suspicions and talked with the store manager today and let her in on what i thought might be taking place. While there i noticed we have a nice 3 ton jack for 84 bucks so that is on my list to replace the 2 ton with, i will come up with something to rig the box, im sure the air horns under the hood going off would make for an attention getter.

OK, OK, I was trying to resist, but the last post makes this short hijack necessary. :-laf

I had a neighborhood tomcat that was marking the bottom of my windshield and the heater intake on my old 72 Dodge Monaco. Turn on the defroster in the morning and cat stink was everywhere. I tried a few things with no result. I then parked next to my electric fence (1500 V pulsed weed chopper style). I put screen door screen across the windshield and held it in place with plastic tubing under the wipers (did you know they conduct?). I grounded the car body to the fencepost.

The next morning there was a tiny squirt on the windshield right on the screen. :-laf :-laf

Nothing for a week or so then one night that #@$%! cat came and marked every other window on the car (all 7 as it was a wagon) and then never returned. One smart, smart *** cat!

Since then I have used electric fence controllers to good use. I got my neighbor (the one we suspected of dealing in homemade pharmacuticals) that was pushing down my fence and snooping in my yard around the shop when I was gone. I put another electric wire 6" from the top strand and left town for the weekend. When I returned, the top strand had been pushed down far enough to straddle and the aluminum fence wire had been stretched. Oo. Got him! I never had signs that that neighbor came back.

BTW, for legal reasons, I did post one of those warning signs by my gate that let people know I had the electric fence. Dummys don't read well in the dark. :-laf

Guys i want to thank you all for the advice and comments, i thought about insulating the tool box but they way mine is attached i don't see that as an option. Now on the other hand i had thought of a fence charger, solar powered:-laf i would have to run wires from the cab under the bed and up. I think someone also commented on using a electric car latch hooked to a set of horns i believe, not that might work, or figure out a way to hook up a pair of the electric air horns i have and have it go off when the connection is broke, i could probably get that to work but it will take me a little bit to figure out the parts and how to do it(electrical i love fooling with) on vehicles that is. If someone knows how to do that with either horns in the tool box or hooked to the existing set send me a msg here, inquiring minds want to know more:D

Back in the early 90,heard of a guy that had his car audio ripped off for the 5th time----guess he new the local teenagers were helping themselves to his stuff. He decided to mount fishing hooks to the back of the stereo. (I don't recommend this at all,but its a good laugh). Came out on morning and there was the kid laying on his side all night long with some sore fingers stuck under the dash bleeding. Last i heard was the cops were thinking of charging the owner of the car with something but he said it was worth the charge/and seeing the kid wiggle like a worm on a hook----bet ya he thought twice about stealing stereo's again. :D :D :D DW
