Had a chance to install the Westach boost egt gauge today. Took it for a spin, boost NEVER goes beyond 22, I was shocked to see how fast the EGTs rise and fall, I have it installed pre turbo and when you stomp it up a hill it can go to 1000 but as soon as you let up its down to 500. Is this "normal". Mine is a stock '95, 2WD, 5 speed, 3500.

Bill, I tried to put the reinstall the cat but there is a pipe in the way. I guess I will have to live with the temp. as they are.

Maint Man, How much did you scoot the stock plate and did you "boost the boost"? Is that all you are from stock and is is worth the bother? Reason I ask is so many were yappin about the cat and all that power without it... I did it and all it did was make it smell better! MATBE a tad off the line.

Statland,

As far as getting catless, I didn't notice anything powerwise either. The turbo whine was more noticeable, but that was all. For your plate, slide it all the way forward. With gauges, you can monitor the effects and make your own decisions based on what you see and feel.

I've got the plate slid full forward on my 97. I also have a boost elbow another member gave me (thanks MDW). I can pull 35 PSI boost at WOT. My EGT's also never get over 1100°. That's even pulling a 30 Travel trailer. On a good pull up a 5% grade I usually run about 22 PSI boostat 1000°. Normal cruising temp at 70 mph is about 600° and around 3 PSI boost.

The reason your only pulling 22 PSI is because of your wategate. I don't know if you can buy just the boost elbow but I guess it never hurts to ask. Not sure if it will help anything without adding more fuel though.

Them Westach gauge are awful nice aren't they? I have mine stuffed in the hole to the left of the cup spiller.

Curtis, Yeah I got the gauge at Geno's, those folks are real good! Everything is thought out on their stuff. Once I got the 4 2 1 filter set and, believe it or not the oil filter would not screw on, I unwrapped another and all was fine. Called Geno's the next day told them about it, three days later there was a filter in my mailbox! No questions asked. On the gauge, mine is in the same spot as yours. The only change I did was to round off the edges of the lexan piece so it looks real nice, also I wired the light into the lighting circuit.

On the boost elbow, isn't that just a matter of a smaller hole (orofice) to "slow down" the response of the wastegate?
