I have been driving "blind" (guage-less) for a while, so I don't know what my baseline boost and EGT were when stock. I installed a TST #6 to take the 160 hp up to 230 hp; then I slid it and the AFC housing all the way forward and spun the star wheel all the way toward the engine. Smoke is not a problem, and is only thick from a standing start with heavy pedal. I rarely go nuts with my right foot, but sometimes a bottleneck in the road before the next stoplight will force me to. Anyway, I figured that I had better get some guages to monitor the engine functions. My questions: After a "temporary" guage installation to make sure it works and before permanent mounting, I'm seeing 4# of boost at 65 mph (1750 rpm in O/D lockup) on flat highway. That seems kind of low to me. Normal or not? Also, I did floor it once just to see if the boost would get higher than the stock 18#-20# and to see what the EGT max would be. The max boost was about 32# and blew the hose off the barbed connector in the manifold. EGT (post-turbo) was never more than 700 degrees F and was usually about 450 to 500 at 65 mph cruise. Is this too cool? Should I worry about guage accuracy? It's a Westach dual unit 0#-30# boost and 400 - 1800 degrees. Any input from Rammers experienced with these things will be greatly appreciated.
Phil

Hey, our trucks are just about twins! Your readings sound just about exacly as mine are. I never heard of anyone being worried about the egt's being too COOL, though #ad
Everything sounds about normal to me. I do hope "the usual refinements" means the cat's gone. If you pull something you will see those egt's climb pretty fast, solo's no problem.

Just got back from a trip to Charleston, SC. The cruise EGT (post-turbo) was around 500 o F at all speeds, about 50-100 more if accelerating to a higher speed. 65 mph boost was 4#. 70 mph boost was 6#. 75 mph boost was 8#. Hard charging saw the boost run up to 32#, but the EGT never exceeded 700 o F. Pretty much the same readings as when I first installed the guage temporarily. I made the same trip last year without benefit of TST mods and got 22 mpg (loaded up full, but not towing anything). This year, I took 300 miles of stop/go/sit side trips in addition to the highway travel. I also put my foot into it a little bit to see how the guages work. All told, the mileage was 20 mpg this trip, so there isn't much of a penalty to pay for the extra power. I think more judicious use of the right pedal would give me the same mileage as stock. How cool is that? BTW, danandme, my cat was replaced with a 3" to 4" reducer and 48" of 4" pipe that runs straight into the muffler.

I put in the big TST torque plate (10)? and now have great power and better mileage (gained 2 mpg on average! but still only getting about 15). My boost doesn't go much over 30 ever, I do get smoke at low rpm and foot buried and my Pyrometer reads 750 at 65 mph empty but rarely goes above 1100.

Just a thought which you may be aware of. Post turbo you need to add 300 deg. to your figure if your towing. 950 post relates to 1250 degrees. Just my $. 02 Mike

Well yall got me kinda of worried. My boost/etg reading are:

70mph fairly level road - 6/hi700s-800s
Accelerating moderately -13/1000-1200
I can bust 1000 easily without even trying.

The temps are pre-turbo. I was told not to worry, unless your temps go to 1400.

What do yall think??? These are running empty.

Steve
