If the chip (or box I assume) has a boost fooler for the MAP sensor then by all means add the elbow. If the box or chip does not have a map sensor fooler built in then I would not add the elbow.

There are two things that have to be done to add more boost to our trucks. The first is to fool the waste gate on the turbo with an elbow or spring or 22 shell or what ever method you choose. The second is to fool the compute, this is done by using a device that clips signal voltage from the MAP sensor. This is can be accomplished by purchasing a chip/box that includes a boost fooler in it or getting a stand alone boost fooler from one of many vendors.

The 22 shell only works on the HY35 turbos that came on the 01 automatic trucks. You need a boost elbow or what ever to disable your wastegate. If you have an EZ, did it not come with a little brass elbow??

boost elbow/premature failure?

I have the edge computer by BD. My 99 24v is all stock except for a FIPK K&N, and the BD edge. Recently I looked at my turbo and found a little oil puddle in front of the impellers. (soon as you take off the air tube) I can feel a little play, just slight, as well as moderate resistance to spinning the impeller. I removed the power elbow, and replaced the stock elbow. the truck has 130k on it. Is the Holset on its way out, and did the elbow cause its premature wear? Any input is appreciated.

I doubt the elbow had much to do with the failure, turbos do wear out and 130K miles is a decent time for a turbo to last. I can not even fathom how many time the blades have spun around in 130K miles. . Anyway I think I would get the turbo checked out by someone who knows turbos. If you go to replace or rebuild it I would look at one of the aftermarket guys. People like Piers (www.piersdiesel.com) have great turbos and they are reasonably priced.

Good luck and I would not let this problem go too long. If the turbo blows up it will spread metal/oil into your intercooler and possibly the enigine. Both of these are bad things.

How exactly do you use a . 22 shell to block the wastegate? I've been trying to figure out a way to maybe swap out that hard line, but if this works then I'm all for that.
