Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) Boost elbow

My original Van AAken failed with about 100K miles on it and I replaced it with a new one. The new one came with a boost elbow and MAP sensor connection taht was not provided with the first one I bought. After looking at the elbow I see that it has a small orfice and a hex head set screw that the OEM elbow doesn't have. What exactly are the small orfice and set screw for? Also how does the elbow actually work or what does it do for the engine?

The boost elbow is in reality a boost fooler. It will allow you to produce more boost with the turbo. It keeps the waste gate from opening up by metering or acting as a restrictor (small orfice). The extra connectors are for the computer and your box will fool the computer as to how much boost it sees. You should see and feel a noticable difference in power and performance. ENJOY

The boost elbow is a pressure reducing valve. It lowers the pressure going to the waste gate. The set screw in the elbow is a restriction, the small hole is a bleed off, without the bleed hole it would just be a delay valve
