Boost/Fuel Relationship

OK here is another dumb question. . Today is the first day that I drove to work after the boost guage install. At 65 mph(on cruise), the guage ran about 5 lbs of boost, when I would start up a small hill(overpass), the boost guage would go up, but all other guages stayed the same(rpms), all execpt the pyro, it did come up. When I got to the top all dropped back to normal flat land running. Why would the boost come up and the rpms stay normal. . I could hear the turbo whistle a little louder. .

Rick,

When it goes up hill the cruise opens the trottle more so there is more fuel. This results in more exhaust so the turbo spins faster thus more boost.

Your climbing the hill required more power to hold that speed. The computer added more fuel, but not enough to increase the speed. Since your speed didn't increase, why would your RPM's? Your directly linked with your manual transmission.

Add more fuel to create more power, create more heat due to more fuel, create more boost due to added fuel and exhaust heat/pressure. Yet its still more complicated than that, but that's about as simple as I can state it and still be understanble... . I may not be understandle anyway. Hope it helps.

BTW, if you had an auto, your rpms may have very slightly increased, even though your speed didn't increase. That's because autos are not directly linked, they are continuously slipping a bit, that also why they create heat in the transmission.
