Just about ready to install my VDO gauges. My previous 12v had a convenient 1/8" plug to remove and install the fitting. On my new 24v I see two larger plugs beside what I assume is the intake air temp sensor way in the back behind the fuel filter. Is either of these a suitable place to install the boost line? If so, are these two plugs NPT thread sizes? FWIW, I like to tap off of the cigar lighter for my 12v power and use a 1 amp fuse for the gauges.

Take a look a this page, the plug to the left of number 8 is the one you want.

You will need a 1/2 inch drive extension and a ratchet. If your truck is new, you should be able to take the plug out without any problem. If your truck is like mine ( 40,000+ miles ), you might need to warm the engine up before trying to remove the plug. The plug is 3/4 inch NPT, you will need to find a bushing to get it done to the size you need. I had to use a 3/4 inch NPT to 5/8 inch NPT bushing, then a 5/8 inch NPT to 1/8 inch NPT bushing.

Hope this helps, you can find all the information on my How-To page.

I have installed 2 boost gauges this month, and here is how I did it.

Remove air intake horn (4 bolts) and loosen band claps on upper rubber boot and it comes right off--and you can reuse the gaskets. Drill & tap rear of air horn (back side is nice and flat and hides fitting) for 1/8" pipe, then install fitting and reinstall air horn.

Much easier than getting to that 1/2" pipe plug in manifold and pressure readings will be more consistant--no pulsing.

Just my . 02 cents

I don't get any pulsing from the "test port". I have heard that some people have had that problem. Do you know what type of gauge they are using?

You can tap air horn , remove clanp on air intake hose cover with plastic bag and tape , stuff big wad of plastic bags up in air horn past place to tap , drill hole tap , remove bags , remove tape and plastic from hose , replace hose and clamp ,done . I used the top at the place it widens and is flat . about eight inches from the clamp area. Ron in Louisville KY:rolleyes:   :D P. S forgot let the chips fallout wipe inside of horn then remove wad of plastic gravity helps keep things from getting in the eng but a little wipe is all it takes to get it all chip free.
