I just installed an Isspro 2-50 mechanical boost gauge, plumbed with a piece of 1/4" rubber hose to the manifold test port. When the engine is under load, pulling about 16-17 psi, the gauge makes this sort of buzzing noise and the needle flutters a little. Is this a bad gauge, or does the pressure fluctuate when the waste gate starts to open, causing the gauge to wig out? It seems to work fine, it's just an irritating sound. I can always turn up the stereo if I have to.

I always get a slight needle flutter when my wastegate opens. I know it's the wastegate. Mine doesn't make any noise though.

Part of the buzzing (rattling as I call it) also comes from the #4 valve. My analog gauges did it and it disappeared when I went digital.

Tap the intake horn for your boost connection and your flutter will go away (I'm assuming that your're using the plug on your engine currently).

That buzzing is common when you are drawing boost readings from the Intake directly. Drill and tap the intake "Pipe" and be sure and use a stiff type of hose. The clear 1/8" tubing is the best way to go. Avoid rubber since rubber will expand under boost and pissible cause erratic readings. Just order a replacement Intake gasket (About 4 bucks) and remove the 4 bolts holding the pipe in place. Then drill and tap it, then reinstalll it and your good to go.

I took Emddiesel's advice, and tapped the intake horn. I didn't remove it; I only disconnected the rubber hose to the intercooler, stuffed some newspaper into the intake to intercept metal chips, tapped in a hole on the elbow about an inch above the detent where the rubber connection hose ends (slathering lots of white grease onto the tap to grab stray chips), and installed a hose barb for my gauge connection. No more noise.

What a great bunch of people in the TDR willing to help each other out. Thanks for the replies.
