Hi,

My son has the Quad which reads boost though the Map I believe but I am not sure if it is accurate, I want to add a Mechanical one. I believe I can use a boost bolt any tips on installing this? What bolt does it replace?

I know Glowshift has mixed reviews for their Fuel pressure gauge but how is their Boost gauge?

Banks? Autometer? any others ?

What about mounts? is there a good column mount?

Do I need to run power to all of them?

Thanks

I've always leaned toward Isspro. My '98 had Autometer's in it when I bought it. The pyrometer would just go crazy and bounce all over the place then peg past "0" from time to time.

I recently bought a new Autometer boost gauge because the graduations were more suitable to me.

I was not impressed. The gauge was sticky between 0-5 psi boost, whereas my Isspro was very responsive in that area. Needless to say the Autometer got uninstalled.

I have used VDO (Germany) in the past which didn't match the expectations, fooled me more then once.

3 years ago I installed a set of Glowshifts into my buddies 98 and they work well and were easy to install.

So right now there is a whole set of 5 gauges from Glowshift in my partsbox waiting to be installed in my truck next month.
What I especially like about them is that they use OEM sensors/senders instead of some oddball unique parts. And all connections are sealed outside the cab.

From me, a thumbs up for Glowshift.

Edit: Everything read from the ECM/OBD2 connector is very accurate as this is what the ECM seas and works with, this is, hands down, by far the most precise and timed info you can get.

Ozy I have heard that since it reads from factory map that it has a hard time reading past 26 LB or so. Is this true I am not sure but I have heard it more than once. My Truck is stuck at around 26 and I want to confirm the pressure.

It’s not the factory MAP that has an issue, but rather OBDII can’t report any higher.

The limit is 255kpa, or 37psia. When you subtract ambient pressure you get your max boost reading for OBDII. Sea level is 14.7psia; so 22.3 psig is what you get.

I have the quad with the boost fooler built in and I have an adjustable elbow which at this point I believe is turned all the way in.

Interesting... I never really watched the boost on my 04 with TST... (had a mechanical adjustable elbow on the WG.) but did notice it never seemed to report higher than that... I guess it makes sense, sold the truck so no way to check it now (LOL).

Once you get a mechanical boost gauge you'll be able to dial that turbo in.

The boost fooler is another reason you aren't getting accurate readings thru the OBDII port.

If you want to adjust the wastegate for max effective boost that 35 psi, any more is just hot air.

That also assuming you have the fuel to spin it that fast.

Stock for was only low 20’s for boost.

many years ago, i bought Pricol - Optics, Boost and EGT gauges - their still in the truck and work great. Only thing i'd do different is get a 0-30 boost gauge. I bought 0-60 gauge and for normal driving even towing it's difficult to see the lower scale graduations because it goes to 60 (vacuum). How often are you going to be running it at 30 and above (300 HP and more) in daily driving? Years ago, i thought I was going to do all kinds of mods to the engine (hence the 0-60 gauge) and 25 yrs later, it's still stock. For what its worth, only when i get highly aggressive w/the skinny pedal will i ever see 21 - 23 on the boost gauge (210 hp - 230hp) yet it goes all the way to 60. With a 0 - 30 gauge I thinking i'd see more needle movement in the lower end of the scale.
If you enter into monster truck pulls or serious mud bogging the 0-60 would likely be a better choice..
