Boost hoses, IC hoses, High pressure silicone hoses...McMaster-Carr?

Came across a post the other day but now I can't find it after searching for an hour or two.



Has anyone upgraded to silicone hose "couplers" (from the intercooler [IC] to the IC tubing and from the IC tubing to the intake) by making their own from hose purchased at McMaster-Carr.com? If so, what type of hose was used? They have three available... . see McMaster-Carr and search "silicone hose".



Also, are the rings that constrict the hose from expanding available from anywhere? Trying do this job the way I do most... . low cost and common sense, but well-suited for the conditions it will see... .



Any help is GREATLY appreciated!



In one of the other threads, I also came across the offerings from Intake Hoses.com (see Intake Hoses, IntakeTubing, and Intake Clamps: Charge Air Cooler Hoses). Anyone have any experience with these? Unfortunately they are backordered for a while... .



I assume a 3rd gen truck would require 3" ID hose??

Not on a CTD, but we've ordered alot of stuff from IntakeHoses for work, and it's all held up really well. I can't anticipate a problem on a Cummins. We ordered one piece 5" diameter 36" long that has been running on the hot side of the intercooler on a Series 60 for years now without a failure! It constantly sees boost around 35 psi and temps around 300° F.

I certainly see where you're coming from, but (correct me if I'm wrong), you're paying around 200% (very conservative estimate) to 400% markup on the exact same items. It's silicone hose... . as long as both meet the appropriate SAE standards and pressure/temp ratings, you're paying more because someone else has put their name on it, cut it to a special length for your truck, and then marketed it to you. :-laf



Can you give me an idea of the approximate price you paid for all of your hoses? I've done quite a bit of looking through the archives for ideas on prices, hence the reason I want to do my own... !

This is a GREAT idea! I'm sorry I never thought of it.

Not sure on the proper ID... best idea is to remove one of yours and measure.

Please keep us posted on what you end up using!

On edit: a quick look at McMaster and I couldn't locate any appropriately-sized silicone hose. Largest I could find was 1" ID.

the grade of hose is very important, you'll need heat resistance over 500*, and pressure holding over 75psi, and fuel/NOS/METH resistance to degradation. I played this game before I bought mine ,I felt the peace of mind was worth a few bucks. I reused the stock clamps and just got the boots, 2 hump hoses and 2 elbow adapters near $140. much improved over stock pieces! the 3rd gens are less than $100 !

3rd gens are less than $100 for a complete set? That's a lot cheaper than what I've been quoted and seen around the forums. Which brand is this??

I ordered my set from Genos garage. Three of the hoses are 3"i. d. and 1 is 2. 75i. d.

Received a Cool Blue hose (turbo to airbox), and four intercooler boots w/clamps.



It can be had in three colors, blue, red, black, Nice set!
