Just installed the edge ez on my 2001 auto. Should I see an increase in boost on my gauge? Before the ez addition I saw boost @ 20 PSI and it is the same after the ez. .
You have to disable the wastegate on the turbo to get the extra boost. Do a search on turnbuckle, there are procedures posted. I am getting 29psi using the turnbuckle method.
I HAD THE SAME PROBLEM WITH THE INFORMATION THAT WAS SENT WITH MY EDGE PULSE. IT DIDN'T ADDRESS THE AUTOMATICS.
I HAVE SEEN THE PICS. ON THE WASTEGATE WITH THE TURNBUCKLE ATTACHED ON IT. IT DOES NOT INDICATE HOW TIGHT TO ADJUST IT. NOR THE SIZE OF THE TURNBUCKLE USED FOR THIS MODIFICATION. I ONLY HOOKED THE PLUG-INS AND NOT THE TWO REMAINING WIRES. DOES ANYONE NOW IF IT WILL WORK THIS WAY. I THOUGHT I READ THAT IT WOULD ONLY WORK UP TO THE 2ND LEVEL. CAN ANYONE HELP ME. I AM TRYING TO DETERMINE A BASE LINE WITH ONLY THE SECOND LEVEL PLUG IN BEFORE MY T/C V/B DTT ARE INSTALLED ON THE 27TH OF MARCH. I HAVEN'T BEEN ABLE TO TRY IT OUT YET. THERE WAS SO MUCH TRAFFIC THIS AM. TEN MILES OF PARKING LOT CONDITION ON THE FREEWAY ... ... . THANKS
Welcome to the TDR. Sorry I can't help you with your ? but I have some other help for you... ... ... . When you type all caps that means you're yelling... ... ... ... Soooooo don't ruin Miller Time... ... . knock the caps lock button right off your keyboard. lol
This set up got me 32# of boost with my mods. Turns the turbo a nice yellow color from the heat. I haven't heard of anyone trashing a HY turbo though. I think they're pretty bullet proof. Just crank down on the turnbuckle till it's all the way tight. That did it for me. I've since switched to the PDR HX-35 turbo and have seen minimal gains. The weather is cooler now though. In the warmer weather it should help a lot.
You can also adjust the arm by taking the clip off and screwing it in or out (not sure). Or the . 22 method. I find mine the easiest on and off if you need to remove the EZ for any reason (stealer trip).
Thanks for the pictures. Garrett it makes it look easier to understand with the straight edge. Have you tried different settings since you installed your ez pulse? If so what about your mileage, were you able to maintain the same mpg. prior to the install.
I have the regular EZ. I did rig an in cab switch to go from setting 1 to 3 on the fly. Mileage didn't change so you could notice. Thats the one thing about the HY it spools so quick it hits 20# boost and your getting max fuel anyway. I could blow a slightly darker cloud on 3 though.
As far as adjusting the spring. After a stealer trip I put the setup back on and didn't get it tight enough. I would only develope 25# of boost and I felt a tremendous power loss. That's with dd2's and the EZ. With just an EZ your probably just looking at lowering the EGT's a little with the extra boost.
Garrett, where did you get that spring? I tried your setup with what I thought was a very strong spring. Boost would peak at 24 then drop off to the stock 18psi. I went to the turnbuckle only and get a steady 30psi at WOT. Guess I won't blow the turbo with my setup. I don't tow at full boost for an extended time.
They go by the name Handyman. ¾" by the shortest they have. I had to bend the hook end around backwards to make it hook onto the wastegate arm. They're pretty stout. Obviously the wastegate can still push it though.
I have a few questions if you don't mind, #1 is there any benefit to this set that big white beast has shown if you don't have any mod. the max i get in boost is #20 with the muffler fairy heist. I have a bhaf setup just waiting to be put in, in a couple of days. will i get more boost and lower egt's with this setup? Thanks guy to all that reply.
Without any mods you will set an overboost code in the ECM. You need a boost fooler. Most fueling boxes have one built in. If not it can be purchased seperately. The only time you will need more boost is with more fuel.
With the BHAF you will see faster spool up and lower EGTs untill you get past the fueling box on to injectors and turbos. Once you get there the motor is really sensitive to intake air temp and really prefers cold air.
On mild BOMBs the BHAF compliments them very well. I still have mine on with DD3, PEDC, B1, and 4"ex. I wouldn't call it mild anymore.
Put on some sort of fueling box... an EZ or PEC, the BHAF, and the turnbuckle. You'll be a really happy boy. Do any more than that and you'll be calling Bill in no time to help with that slushbox
