My truck is running 3 psi boost, tops, cruising at 70 on level road, I have been told that it should be around 8-10 psi. What could be causing the problem, if there is one? It will hit up to 37 psi when I get on it.

Level of boost required is based on load not as much speed. If you are going down hill and not throttle you could be going 80 (depending on grade and length) and have 0# boost. Likewise you could be going up hill @ 5 mph and have 30+ depending on mods (boost elbow, wastegate etc). So the 3 psi @70 mph on level ground, empty bed, 0 head or tail wind sounds right.

Mine is an HX35, HY's came later. I am going to be changing the turbo soon, after I decide which one to go with... Dodgezilla, Piers HX35, Aurora 2000... decisions, decisions...

My hy ran about 6-10 psi at 70 also. Now my sps 66 only runs 3 or so. Could it be where he lives compared to us, sea level maybe? I know when i ran out west i didnt like it, no air like around here.

I love to see my boost gauge reading below 5 when I'm highway driving. That means I'm burning less fuel.

On flat ground at 70 I run 3-5 lbs so the numbers seem normal to me.

With the advanced timing of the smarty on fuel saver it has dropped my boost down a couple points cruising at 70. Average flat no wind boost is 3-5. With the stock software boost was 1-2 PSI higher.

All sounds A-OK to me.

HY35 ----> DOH! I always forget about that.

Been looking at those same turbos on your list for a while myself. The Aurora seems to keep coming to the top, but the lack of a waste gate (disposable income) worries me. The DZ seems more suitable for top end Hp.

Buy a 2000 and test it for me.....

BTW HTT also makes a hybrid, if you are not already confused and mislead enough. I believe you send them your HX35 and they will mod it by adding a bigger compressor. But in the end, I have no clue.

Its just my paranormal paranoid thinking. :)

Jim,

I'll split the cost with you and tell you if I like it or not, that way you will be well informed when it comes time to buy one for your truck! :-laf

Things that affect boost at any speed:

Tire pressure, Head wind, Tail wind, Gearing, Load, Load distribution, Speed (drag), RPM's (engine speed) Grades (up or down), Accessories installed on your truck, Accessories running, etc... etc... etc...

I'm sure heat, cold and barometric pressure has some effect too, but to what extent I am not sure... .

Your boost sounds normal to me.

If you had low boost and noticed low power..... Then you would have a problem.

Is the power still there?

That sounds like a really sweet deal. Well sort of... . :{

You must have read the article in the last issue of TDR magazine. Thats what got me thinking about the Aurora 2000. Might be a good fit in my application.
