Since the 'EZ' has the built-in 'boost module', can this function be set up separately some way so that, when using DD2's or 3's, you could see what just these injectors will do alone in HP/TQ without the extra fueling/timing that comes in with the rest of the 'EZ'?

YES! Just unplug the Data Link connection, leaving the MAP sensor connections intact. I was advised to run this way for a test by DD... I have the DD TTPM (Diesel Dynamics True Torque Power Module... an Edge EZ with different timing and fueling curves) for a diagnostic test due to a driveability problem.

I have DD 1's and a boost module (the test was 0-60 times) and there is no performance increase with just the boost module, it only allows the engine to breath more air to lower EGT's, as a side note the stage 1's cut 2 full seconds off my 0-60 times the boost module lowered my EGT's after i hooked it up

Which one is the'Data link' connection?
On my Y2K I have the 3 prong plug that is in series with the 'EZ', and then there is the plug next to the block that I had to have an adapter for that is out of the block area under the Lift pump; it was originally a flat 3-prong plug, and had a 'dummy' in it stock.

The 'Data Link' connection is the one on top of the lift pump. The flat three prong plug that has the adaptor on it for '98/'99 models

Do I unplug the flat 'dummy' plug, and just leave it disconnected, or put the dummy plug in, and keep the other two series plugs intact?

Still need to have the above question answered? If I install DD2's, how do I hook up(in detail please, for my pea brain)my 'EZ' so that just the 'Boost Module' function of the 'EZ' box works, but not the rest of the 'EZ?' Thanks in advance to all that respond.

Bob, from one pea brain to another, here goes. Since you have a Y2K, the same as I, there are three plugs on the EZ. the flat three prong plug on the EZ that connects to the 'Data Link' is for timing and fueling. The other two on the EZ have a triangular shape, these connect in series with the map sensor. Series meaning that you unplug the map sensor and plug the EZ connector between the sensor and the plug you disconnect from the map sensor. If you do not plug the flat three prong plug in the 'Data Link' then the EZ will act only as a boost module. You do not need to reinstall that flat dummy plug thats in you hand back in, it's there just as a protective cover for the data link.

OK guys. . I have a weird question for you. First off I have an Auto transmission. I do understand the concept that if I add power, my shift points change. So if I disconnect the data link, being that I am decreasing power... right? Will my shift points also change, and last will this help me decrease smoke for Emission testing?

I only have smoke off of the line with little boost?

Thanks

Kev

RobbyRam, WeirCummin is correct although, the Data Link on my '98. 5 (and '99 models) is located in front of the injection pump, near the power steering pump, using a triangle shaped connector. Later engines have the Data Link located as stated in previous posts, using the flat style connector. However, mentioned in the DD TTPM installation instructions: "On some 2001 trucks the connector is located on the drivers side of the engine in the wiring harness near the power steering pump. " Key word being SOME. #ad

Kevin, increase your power and your full throttle shift points will increase, reduce power and they will decrease. That is why Bill set my full throttle shift point at 3100... this was in anticipation of me adding a DD TTPM (or EZ) to my current setup... and dam*ed if he wasn't right! After the addition of the DD TTPM my full throttle shift points increased to 3200 rpm just as he said they would.

The only bite now is that even the second DD TTPM won't work properly. #ad
Well, I suppose I could look at the bright side, at least they both functioned incorrectly the same way (ON MY RAM). I suppose with the lopy idle I could always tell everyone I have a Comp Cams 290 cam in that bad boy. #ad

PS: Piers, go ahead and insert laugh here ________..... need more room eh? ok ________

Next dumb question. How much boost will you gain with a boost module, before you hit whatever limit the wastegate imposes? Or is the "elbow" required to get any good out of a boost module???

thanks guys!

If you do not install the elbow you will not see over 20psi of boost due to the wastegate opening. Doesn't matter if you have a boost module because that only interacts with the MAP sensor and prevens the ECM from defueling when it sees "Stock" boost. The wastegate is purely a physical function, so until you change the elbow you won't see any increased boost.
