Just installed boost gauage isspro all electric elements working o. k.

no boost reading at gauage. hose has no kinks and all fittings hand tight to gauage and at manifold. Took out fitting on engine at cant feel any air or pressure from hole with motor running. Is this normal or do I have to hook fitting up elsewere?

TIA

Are you trying to read the gauge at and idle? You arnt going to see any boost at an idle. You need a load on the motor to build boost. Go take it for a drive and report back.

Roger on that one LOL. . I know alot of folks think their boost gauge doesn't work after install, although if ya have a 12cm housing and lots of fuel, you can get it to build boost with no load. I can move my gauge no load 16cm housing. Gotta run it up to about 3500r's though lol.

LOL well I never said I did this befor. LOL :-laf Sure is fun being a newbee.

Thanks for making me laugh, Yes the gauage works just fine.

Thanks again everyone. now do I have to put fuel in the tank to make the fuel gauage go up to the f mark lol I know take it for a test ride lol. Oo. :D :D :-laf

Thanks again everyone

Hummmp,,,,,Never thought of measuring EGT Pressure before

:-laf

You 1st geners measure Boost at the manifold some how ????

The early engines have a plugged port in the intake manifold that is used for plumbing the boost gage to. If he was tapped into the exhaust manifold I guess he would be checking the drive pressure of his turbo. :)

K,,

no diffrent from the 2nd gens except no fatory tap and the INTAKE is really not like a manifold its more of a Horn.

I went with the boost bolt so I measure in HEAD pressure

DM

if people start putting Boost gauges on the exhaust manifold pretty soon you will see dampers on the stacks ... . LOL

At 17:1 I'd like to see what thta gauge is reading at 40 lbs of boost!! :-laf :-laf

Sorry, couldn't resist. My bad!

The air horn is just that. That big hunk of cast iron you bolt the horn to is the manifold, and if I understand your description of "boost bolt", is reading boost from that same place as the gen1 engines. We just don't have a IP as long as the engine that hides things. :D :D

Whats the matter with a boost tap on the exhaust manifold? Doesn't everyone have it tapped for pyro and boost?????  :-laf

Shades of CB_Parker, I need more gauges!!! :D :D

bmoeller, dont forget the 98. 5 and on 24V engines, theyve got that beefy 3/4 NPT port near the map sensor that works well for plumbing the boost gauge into. The only problem is some people (myself included) have problems with pressure pulses from the #6 cylinder making their boost gauge "buzz".

I guess most of these cummins have a built in boost-gauge port! Anybody have input on a 3rd gen HPCR engine, i havent gotten to look that closely at one yet.

Actually, we 1st Genners are like your crazy uncle that lives in the basement. If you're going to leave your computerized 24v world and come down into the basement... . don't expect everything to make sense to you. ;)

No offense intended, just stating the facts. :D

I'll have to take your word for it. Never owned or worked on an over-valved engine. ;) :-laf
