Boost pressure

I have a question about boost pressure on a stock truck. I have a 2004 HO, auto, SB with 81,000 miles. The truck is absolutly stock. No matter how I try driving it, the most boost I can achieve is 24 lbs. This is under full throttle, up a slight grade, turning just shy of 3000 rpm. I have tried running up this same road both with a trailer in tow and without. The grade goes about 3 tenths of a mile, plenty of time for boost to build. The boost builds to 24 lbs, sometimes a bit less, and just stops. My EGT's max out at about 975* post turbo on a run. I have never tried to test it on a longer or steeper hill because I can hit 24 lbs quite quickly and it just holds there until I back out of the throttle. I was expecting a reading closer to 28 to 30 lbs from a stock truck. Am I expecting to much from a stock truck?

I don't know what could be wrong. Worn out turbo, boost leak, I don't know.



But I can hit a peak of 32-34 with it settling around 28.

That is normal boost pressure for a stock truck. Everythings fine.

That is all you will get with an 04. Pre turbo you are hitting 1250 pretty quick but will stay close with the stock turbo.

I agree - ~24 lb is normal maximum for that year truck.

Actually, on mine I don't think I've ever seen more than ~23 lb. I've always assumed it's because it's not fully loaded.

Normal for a stocker... whats not normal is having a stocker!!! :-laf

That is normal on a stock truck. If you add a box/tuner... . you will see a little more. You can always add a boost fooler & drill a hole in your wastegate elbow to get more boost if you desire.

Stock max boost:

'04 ~23 psi
'04. 5 ~30 psi
