Ok I got my Dodge back from the body shop and it's time to address some other issues. Where did all the acceleration go ???

I put on a boost guage today. I'm getting @ 10 psi with gentel acceleration, and as high as 28 - 30 (peg) when there is enough

road to hold the pedal on the floor from a stand still. Is this about right ?? The truck has 400k+ miles on it.

Just seems to lack zing ! Don't know EGT ..... dont have one of those yet :{

Thanks for all the posts, it all helps us new diesel yunguns just teathing :p

Mark,

May I suggest you fill out your signature so that we can see what you have as far as your turck and anything you have done to it. Such things as year, intercooled or not, timing /pump tweaks, injectors, etc. , etc. . This will help us help you.

Carl

Yeah what they said, user control panel, edit profile, fill in blank on signature. That should be included in FAQ?! Either way if your intercooled or non, you're producing a good amount of boost. Bill

With that boost your truck should flat out get it. If you are not as old as CB than you can't handle that much power GET YOUR FOOT OUT OF IT. Before we tell your folks. Maby they put 3000 lbs. of body puty and paint on it.

May-be they put 3000 lbs. of body putty and paint on it.

That's MY truck! I should GAIN boost 'cause I'll be carry'n all that extra weight/load... . :)

I'm sure it'll look good but won't be... . well... ... solid :(

my truck is somewhat stock and I only get 18 psi max wot, your boost guage must be generous, you need an egt also, never leave home without it. I tow a enclosed trailer for work and thats what I drive the truck by, mash the go pedal till the egt's get high then back off. The problem with power is somewhere else, I've painted cars and know that they could have got water in your fuae tank, change your fuel filter, just a suggestion.

markha1-

You OBVIOUSLY didnt read the sticky about first gen owner tips; if you had, you would have seen my suggestion of a 40+ psi boost gauge. But, I do have to petition for a 5hp bonus for ya, as you already have the gauges.

Now, for your truck being "stock. " I have one thing to say to that- Aint no way on this earth or in the next life you are anywhere NEAR stock fuelling- stock boost on a 93 is in the neighborhood of 17-20psi +/-. Get a pyrometer, and FAST, as you could be in the danger range already. And since you are already tuned somewhat, and a meltdown will be a bigger issue than turbo cooldown, put out the extra effort to put the probe in the manifold. TST's website has good diagrams of where to put it. Just remember not to put it in the middle, as it is a split manifold- 34 cylinders on the front half, 3 on the back half, divides in the middle between #3 & 4. Turbo boost is load related- if you dont have a load on the engine, you will have little or no boost. What do you have at 60mph cruise? With a 18. 5 hsg, should be in the 2-6psi, depending on gears. Add 2 psi for each housing size you go down, all else being equal.

For your power, you should be lighting the tires if you mash the pedla from a stop. Is the transmission original? If so, it may be high time for a refresh. Same for injector tips. I've heard of half a million miles and no problems; I've had them 500psi low at 140K.

I would say you are getting plenty of fuel; also try your airfilter. How fast are you getting to 60? 1/4mi speed? I dont look at times, (at least not on a blacktop 2-lane road), just how fast I'm going when the odo clears a quarter. Taking my time through the gears, I'm over 80 by the then; gov is 85 :{ :{ I'm thinking you may have torque converter issues, but I'm by no means the one to talk about TCs, other than to say swap it for a clutch and a shifter where it belongs- on the floor. :D

Keep us updated.

Daniel

A "near stock" 93 auto will make roughly 12-14 psi not much more (they have an 18. 5cm turbo housing).

The guys are right... your boost tells a different story... the truck has had some work/tuning done to it, no question about it. That's not bad just that you don't know were you are with your temps. . THAT is NOT GOOD !!!!!

You need some baseline readings and keep track of conditions... that way you'll know pretty well how the truck is working and how healthy it is/isn't. .

You are right on the money. Unloaded crusing 4 psi. Haven't timed 0 to 60 yet. The pyro is the next thing to get. Average acceleration in town , local streets, 10 Psi, I get above 20 if I hold the accelerator on the floor from an idle roll. spin the meats! NOT LIKELY. TC hmmmm that might be interesting. Also noticed some thing last night. At about 30 as the boost was rolling up twards 24psi there was a little surge ?? It is repeatable. Road was flat no hills. Also found why the truck leads to the right. Need new strut rod:{ PO lost the bushing so he ran the nut all the way up and welded it there :--) Has to be replaced before I continue with other issues.

THANKS

Mark H

With POD's, a 12cm housing, and a tiny bit tweaked pump, I can get 34PSI. But that number is 'dumb' that little housing is costing me a lot of hp, I need to get rid of it. but the time/$$=wait equation is still not producing the answer I would like :D

Russell

that is with a 5-speed NV4500 too
