Where is a good place to install the boost sensor? I have the sensor and guage from Dakota Digital. I have seen a post from Geno's mentioning a plug behind the fuel filter, and have also seen some pictures of drilling and tapping the intake horn. SO, where is the best and easiest place. I plan on mounting the sendor itself over near the drivers side fender.

Thanks in advance.

Ron.

Keep me posted...

I will be doing the same install before long myself. I am going to keep track of this thread as I will need this information myself shortly.

I have Dakota Digital gauges on order now. ;)

2 schools of thought......

1) buy the thingie from piers.

2) tap the air horn.

I taped the air horn, but not everyone thinks this gives a good enough reading.

I tapped the airhorn on the side facing the firewall to mount my pressure sender. ... I grouded it and my gauges on the airhorn bolt that grounds the grid heater.

don't know about the newer ones, but on the early ISB's, just behind the fuel filter is where your MAP sensor is. Its kind of hard to see, its up under the intake manafold bolted into the head.

Well next to it is an extra hole. I think it took a 1/2 drive (square) ratchet to remove it. What I did was remove this plug, took my other diesel (my VW) and drove to the hardware store and bought the reducers I needed to make the fitting on my line fit.

Can't see why anybody would want to drill a hole in the intake and risk all those shavings when there is already a hole avalable.

rono, I used the plug behind the filter and it works great, go to Gateway Diesel Owners Association web page, then click on how tos and it should go to a westach egt and boost gauge installation then just go to the part about boost, it works just fine any questions, just call 636-329-0673 Don Barr:) good luck

I also used the plug in the block as my source, works great for me though other members have reported seeing a bouncing needle when using this source. Pick whichever you are most comfortable with, all locations listed will work.

Forgot to add... if you decide to try the plug in the block as a source, take the truck for a ride before you attempt the install. Mine came out almost too easy when everything was warm. I was all set with 1/2" breaker bar and ready for a fight, took about 2 Ft. lbs. to break it loose.

Tapped the airhorn

I tapped the air horn. Works great. Like Scott said, I saw a number of posts stating that people were experiencing the bouncing needle.

The air horn is EASILY REMOVABLE. That way, it is quite simple to clean all of the shavings out. :D :D

THANKS, everyone for the replies. I'll check the plug location. The Dakota Digital is a digital guage and should not bounce. However, if I should get a random reading I can always put the plug back and go with the air horn.

Thanks again, Ron

What's this about the bouncing needle? I haven't seen any of those posts. I have the Auto Meter Ultra Lite mechanical gauge and used the plug. Haven't seen any bouncing but I have had a problem with the gauge sticking before it starts to deflect. (Auto Meter is sending a replacement so I'll see if it helps. ) What/when/how-come the bouncing needle? If mine doesn't do it now, will it start later on... ... or after BOMBing?

nevinst, back when I was new to the TDR, in 2000, some members posted that they were seeing a bouncing needle on the boost gauges while using the plug in the block as a source. Mine doesn't bounce either, don't worry, be happy ;) .
