Boost vs. fuel pressure

In a three guage pod with egt and trans temp which would be of more benefit a boost or fuel pressure guage? I have a VA and don't plan on any other upgrades.

No doubt, go with an FP gauge first, add the boost later. With the amount of lift pump failures we see on this site, the FP gauge is a must.

the pressure to see if your lift pump is going south... .

I have the triple pillar with Boost, EGT and trans temp in it. I never realised how great a fuel pressure gauge was till i installed one yesterday and realised my lift pump is DEAD. I mounted a 2-5/8" (one size bigger then whats in the pillar) Sport Comp series 0-35psi gauge under my dash. I got the gauge, mounting cup, 6 feet of braided stainless AN line with the correct fittings already attatched from www.smokindiesel.com its a great kit since you dont need to get anything else, its all included. Took about 45 minutes to install. If you can afford it, you are better off with a fuel pressure gauge and a boost gauge, this way you have it all covered.

I know most of you guys do not use them. But, this is exactly why I went with Westach guages. EGT/Boost Combo, Fuel Pressure, Trans Temp. Only way I know of to get 4 (analog) guages in a 3 pod pillar. If I had a 5 or 6 speed, and not worried about trans temp, I would have gone with Autometer. Just my . 02.

Put FP gauge in cubby hole by air bag switch or under dash and boost gauge in pillar. You only need to monitor FP ocassionaly so its not needed in the pod.

While the lil pod next to the stereo is a great place to put a gauge, just thought I would point out that if you have heated leather seats, you will not have that "cubby hole". The switches for the heaters are there.



I have found it to be a convient place for my cell phone to sit.

I check my fuel pressure everytime I change the fuel filter, and have a boost gauge in the A frame. I have only needed one lift pump in 80K miles, but have had several boost pressure leaks. The first sign is noise most times, then you see boost is low, then you see EGT is heading for the red line. Plus by watching boost, you can hit max MPG if your into that, as well as keeping smoke down if you want.

Definitely go with the fuel pressure guages. The OEM lift pump seems to have to many reliability problems to blindly trust it.
