About how much boost can you make before you might start to stretch head bolts or blow a head gasket?

I believe 40-45-50 psi is about max for the stock setup, I`m runnin a max of 36-38 now, with no probs. .

Thanks, tp0d. I running about 35 PSI tops, but when I installed 60# exhaust springs and torque, one of the bolts snaped. Also one day my overflow tank was completely drained of water. Never happen before. Seems to be all right now. Dallass

There's a ton of variables, but generally the smaller the turbo (especially the exhaust side) the less boost it takes to blow a gasket. Also how the truck is warmed up during its lifetime makes a difference too. And you can blow it fairly easily if not fully warmed up before cranking on it.

FWIW, mine held up for a few years at 40-42 psi with the stock hx-35. I will tell you from my personal experience that the stock gasket doesn't like life at 53 psi of boost with the stock turbo .

I always let the truck warm up for a minute or so before I go. And I never crank on it when it has not been on the road for awhile. The only time that it would pull more boost is when I hook up to the 5th wheel to go. Then I let it warm up longer. I have the stock turbo on the truck which I quess is the hx-35.
