You wont see any at idle.

If by 5-8 psi, you mean cruisng, yeah thats fine. Should be more than that at wide open throttle though.

As pwerwagn stated, you should see 5-8 (or less) while driving on flat land holding a steady speed. If you get on it with a stock engine you should see something in the neighborhood of 20psi maybe higher depending on how your truck is set up.
 
i had low boost and power on mine when i first got it due to air leaks around the afc (pre boost fueling control) but it won't see high boost till it has a load on it like a high gear on a hill or a trailer, i only get maybe 8 psi in 1st gear empty but it will peg the 30# gauge in 5th
