I posted details and photos about the replacement for my 1994. Some of the pitfalls for 97 are probably similar.



The main thing to watch for is that the two ends of my intermediate shaft appeared identical, but they are slightly different. After struggling for 15 minutes to install the Borgeson shaft in the same orientation as the OEM shaft, I gave up and flipped the shaft end for end. It slid right onto the splined steering column and steering gear shaft. If the shaft does not easily slip onto the splines, try the other end!

Thanks but it is raining down here and I will wait till next weekend. Got my sportlights and was going to install them also along with the new relays and wiring. Let us know how it goes.

steering shaft

I had mine slip off after 90k miles I did'nt use locktite and did not follow up inspecting the shaft after installation. do this several times to make sure. this could be serious if you lose your steering in in mountain driving like I did. Norm
 
well, I thought I was gonna replace it (& a few other goodies), but my job superceded :( Guess I'll try again next wknd.
