Hey guys. I'm BAACK.

I just ordered the Borgeson 943 Shaft and I was going to put it in myself but now I'm a little worried because I read a post saying you have to cut the thing down and getting the old unit apart you gotta be real careful-I'm no real mechanical wizard by any stretch but I figgured this thing would be pretty much a bolt in application, and for the price of this unit I sure as heck don't want to fudge this up. Should I just take it somewhere?

TIA,

Carl

Getting the Borg two U-joint shaft is the way to go in my opinion. Its also easy to do.

The old shaft is usually dirty and a little hard to get off but nothing to be worried about doing. Just find the rolled pins in the old shaft and drive'em out with a punch.

You end up cutting about 3 inches off the Borg shaft. I just figured out what the minimun amount to cut was and still get the shaft to fit onto the ends. If you worried, just cut a little bit at a time until you can get the thing to fit. If its too short, you won't be able to get the shaft on. Once its short enough, it will. Easy.

Lock-tite all the bolts just to be safe.

Carl, bout time you got back on here. You bringin more beer and Canadian bacon to Peru this year? Missed ya last year. ;) :D.

Dont forget lots of PBLaster when you go to take the old stuff off. Clean as your truck is, 14years of age can get stuff stuck together pretty tight.

It feels great to be back :) When i got time I'll pm you and some others.

I'll definitely do my best Daniel... life's been a little haywire around here lately but I definitely want to make getting out there with you guys a priority this year-with more time to play with cause that was way too hectic.

Thanks for the tips guys. I had booked an appointment cause being so busy at work i figured I could make more $ working than it would cost to put this thing on, now i wish i hadn't. Cancellation may be in order. Being an amateur wrencher you guys figgure I could get 'er done in 2 or 3 hours?

Very easily... . it's one of those jobs where if you did a second one it would only take 20 minutes.

Yep... this is a quick job. I probably took 90 mins just figuring it out and chasing the right tools. The rolled pin punch was the hardest to find.
