Just installed one a few months ago along with Geno's PS line kit { also replaced the leaking hydra-boost at the same time}.
I noticed a difference in the steering response immediately. Recommended.

Installed hi-flow pump about a year ago along with a new borgeson box all lines seals etc and rebilt the vac pump--have 20000 miles on them now--best investment I made ---all the problems are gone. currently at 254000

Any higher flowing steering pump will really help a secend gen. However, in my experience, you MUST run a steering cooler. On my 01 I ran a PSC high flow pump and road trips over an hour would overheat the fluid. I installed a 5x11 tube and fin cooler into the return line between the box and reservoir and never had another problem.

BDaugherty is right---I bought the truck new and after one trip thru the desert it was clear that that the truck needed a ps fluid cooler--borderline on overheating when in the desert pulling 5th wheel and ps fluid was slightly burnt--got a ps cooler from summit racing put it on at about 10000 miles and have had no problems just turned 254000 miles.
