I replaced my steering gear box with a NAPA box and purchased a Borgeson shaft. the shaft does want to slip onto the gear box shaft.

anyone else had this problem?

Not uncommon to get the wrong part from NAPA, even as far as the right part number on the box, wrong reman inside.

IIRC the Borgeson box has to have the Borgeson shaft, is the shaft backwards compatible?

Does your old shaft fit on the new steering box?

No. One end of the Borgeson steering shaft is round and splined, the other end is oval shape and flat on the sides (fits over the steering column shaft).
Yes , my old steering shaft fit the NAPA box but some of the old shaft's splines have wore off so there is play in the steering. Thats why I went to the Borgeson shaft.
My guess is that the NAPA box has a different number of splines than the Borgeson shaft. I miced both parts and they are both . 705" so it must be different spline counts.
