Hello,

I bought this box about six months and am just now getting around to installing it in my 97 2500.

There is no way this will line up with my pitman arm splines without turning the wheel about 90 degrees. I did a search on this forum and found a few mentions of this which said the collar was placed on the box input shaft 90 degrees off.

So, I just pulled the box back out and went to turn the collar 90. However, it looks like it can only be turned 180 degrees.

What is the solution?

On another note, the high pressure input fitting on the new box is buggered up. I thought I bought a new box, so I thought I might have done it, but once I got the box out and looked at it closely, there are old galled threads in there that did not come off my high pressure hose fitting. Not sure if Borgeson will work with me on this or not, any suggestions?

I was slightly "put off" #@$%! by the fact that I bought my Borgeson "Replacement" steering box, thinking it was a new unit, only to find dirt and grease in many of the recesses. I went back and looked at the description (both at Boreson and at Geno's, where I purchased the unit) and it says "Unlike the Borgeson remanufactured unit that is available for '89-'93 customers, this steering box offered for '94-'02 trucks is a replacement unit. "

It goes on to say "he original box was engineered in the 1960s, called a Series 700, and was made by Delphi. The replacement unit is also made by Delphi, but it was designed in the 2000s and is called a Series 600. "

Note that it does not say "new" unit anywhere. It is a "replacement unit"... . "designed in the 2000s". (I didn't notice it either. )

In other words, because of the careful selection of words and phrases you end up "assuming" that it is a new replacement, not a rebuild. Sad fact is... it's a rebuilt... just a newer design. Personally I would expect to find this type of marketing at carnivals, and not from reputable dealers.

That said... it is a wonderful box and make both over the road and parking lot maneuvering much easier and smoother than the stock box. :) I don't think knowing it was a rebuilt prior to the purchase would have influenced the purchase. But I still have that tiny bitter aftertaste in my mouth.

Ricky: As for a solution for the splines - My steering wheel was about 70 degrees turned to the left with wheels pointed straight ahead. Loosening the two steering adjusters and turning them about 10 turns each brought the wheel back to center and didn't disrupt my front end alignment.

same here had to adjust the sleeve to center wheel also due to having the DSS steering stabilizer had to cut off and move about 1/4 and reweld the placement of the bearing. but I am really happy with the steering driving 37's

Huh! I got the same meaning from the Genos catalog that you did, and I'd have been equally disappointed to learn I was mistaken. Bad writing, Genos!

When you say you "adjusted the steering adjusters", what exactly do you mean?

Update: I called Geno's where I originally bought the box. What a great bunch! Even though it was about six months ago when I bought the box, they said they would either get Borgeson to ship me another one, or they would. A few minutes later they called back and said they spoke with borgeson, and a new box would be arriving at my house early next week.

Way to go Geno's, thank you.

On 2wd there are two adjusters for adjusting the toe in, one for each side. Each side has to be adjusted the same number of turns but it will allow you to adjust for the 3/8" difference in the mounting location of the box. (on 4wd, there is only one adjuster that needs to be adjusted)
