Borgeson steering box play

I replaced my steering box about two years ago with the Borgeson Box. 26,000 miles ago. I notice that there is about 4 to 5 inches of play in the steering wheel...truck off--turning steering wheel back & forth until I feel resistance. Also I hear a clunking noise coming form the box.

Also I replaced the steering linkage with the upgraded parts (Source Automotive) & I noticed that the tie rods are starting to wear.

Has anyone experienced this problem with the Borgeson Units?

I've not seen that from borgeson specifically but I have yet to see any box that didn't need at least some preload adjustment after break in. The clunking needs to tracked down to a specific component.

Check the pitman arm for up and down movement, you may have to reset the preload screw. Also check the steering shaft form the bax to the wheel for slack.

I have about 40k on one of thos eboxes, no issues like that. However, it is the second box on warranty. First one blew the shaft seal. This one came with all the bolts on the top cover finger tight. It would not surpise me something slipped thru QC.

I too had to go through two of these boxes in a year or so and eventually put in a forth gen box which only required a little notching of the fan shroud to make it fit. The first one had the shaft seal go within months and the second one arrived with all eight bolts finger tight! And it developed excessive play within the year, that's when I went to the fourth gen box and have not had a problem since. The steering feel felt better also. I personally will never put a Borgeson part on my truck again. The QC obviously isn't there.
