Borgesson Steering Shaft? Need info

Truck seems to drift and float a bit at highway speeds. Just wondering if anyone has installed that Borgesson Steering Shaft that is advertised in the TDR and how much of a difference did it make. My truck only has 38K miles on it, tires are in good shape and alignment is fine. It has always had a bit of drift & float, which are a little inheirent on these 2G trucks but seems to be getting worse.

Not that this really answers your question Terry however, I ordered a Flaming River replacement, needle bearing steering shaft several weeks ago. I even purchased the optional polishing/plating option (no surprise here eh? ). I should have received it yesterday via UPS but, they were apparently not ammused by my locked gate. Alternate plans were initiated... I should have it today.



Hopefully I will install it shortly.

Member shendren didn't have much good to say about the Borgesson.

In fact the barely used unit was in the classifieds

sold the barely used one... ... ... . one trip around the block. i put in an oem and the clunking stopped.

I have a Borgeson in mine. It was cheaper than an oem according to my local dealer. It's built better than the oem IMO but I think it was Darin's steering stabilizer that solved the majority of the problems in the front end. My guess is your problem is the steering box itself, or the track bar. Both of those items are troublemakers in these trucks.

I put one in at about 100K and it made quite an improvement. Still like it at 150K. You could feel the slop in the old oem one it was out. I have been happy with it.

I have had mine in for about 2-3 weeks, and overall I'm happy, it got rid of the slop, but it's not as tight as I was hoping. Originally I had ordered the Flaming River shaft, but it was taking way to long to show up, so I went with the Borgeson. I don't think you will be disappointed, but I could be wrong

I have been running a Borgeson Shaft for about 40K miles, helped a little with the wandering problem - the DSS solved the problem. May want to check for play in your steering box.

Well Jim, I JUST installed a new track bar AND a DSS. In addition, I also installed four new shocks (Bilstein), new front springs (Mopar 047/048) and a Safe-T-Plus steering control unit (MUCH MORE than just a steering stabilizer!).



I just received my new Flaming River steering shaft today (plated/polished of course). Talk about one really sweet piece! BTW, I did not order their "EZ Steering Shaft Kit" instead, electing to order their "Truck Steering Shaft Kit" after discussing my options with a Flaming River Tech.

Before you replace your steering shaft, be sure to check your trackbar. Trackbars are a known problem area for steering wander.



It looks like you are just outside of the factory warranty. You may want to look at a Luke's Link or other replacement ball end rather than buy a whole trackbar.



I had mine checked and replaced at the dealer where I bought the truck (the 2000 truck). I had about 37,000 miles on it. I asked (nicely) if Dodge would help me out on the issue, since it clearly didn't fail in the last 1000 miles. The dealership (or Dodge) paid for the part, and I paid for labor. This was clearly not required by the factory warranty. It's nice to have a good dealership. I recommend Batesville Dodge in Batesville, Indiana.

Terry, if you do want to replace your track bar and can't get the dealer to bankroll the new one, and you want a stock type track bar as opposed to either the trick DT track bar or the Luke's Link fix for your stock one, I took the advice of those on here and purchased a TRW track bar from Advance Auto Parts through the Internet. It was just as they stated on here, $100. 73 plus shipping (back in February). It is QUITE A BIT MORE STOUT at the ball socket end than the OE piece. Very heavy-duty at a very reasonable price.



I would have went with the DT track bar however, it was either the DT track bar or my Mag-Hytec front differential cover (or install a 4. 5" or greater lift kit... ).



I was also contemplating going with the DT track bar anyway (and removing my front Mag-Hytec differential cover) until a NW BOMBer had one of the DT heim joints go south after only a year of usage.
