Mopar-muscle,

You went with an Allied muffler right? How does it compare to the Dynomax? Louder/Quiter, Deeper Tone?

Thanks,

Ryan

Allied Muffler

ummm I tried one of their 3" straight through mufflers... . big mistake. Yes, it is a straight through design, but the louvers, and center expansion chamber create so much turbulence above 2000 rpm and 20psi of boost that the resonance sounded like a squealing pig..... at that point the resulting back pressure made EGT skyrocket. Stay away from this muffler, you will not like it.

Diesel Freak, Stan's Headers uses the 4" straight through style, Allied truck muffler with their 4" exhaust system. I have heard this system on numerous Rams and it sounds really nice. In fact, that particular muffler is quieter than any other 4" exhaust system I've heard.

I can't imagine the 3" diameter Allied muffler being so noisy.

I made up my mind

I put a walker back on... ... ... .

all that talk of straight exhaust got me thinking! it sounded cool for a while but the drone is what pushed me to put the muffler back on! i got a walker from napa. it's 36 inches long and more of a straight through design the the original walker i had on my JRE 4 inch. the 4 inch pipe travels straight through with tons of . 25 inch holes drilled in it. the best part is:..... NO DRONE and its almost as loud as a straight pipe:D i found the perfect muffler:) the new walker was a tad over $100 bucks.

TIM: what the He!! is TITTT???

JOHN: thanks for the offer! i would have took it if i had time... leaving for the Key's tonight:D :D :) :)

... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... . see ya all in a week or so... ... james

it was not noisy, it just made a squeeling pig sound above 2K... . seriously. The 3" muffler cant handle the volume above 2K. I know it is a straight through design, but the louvers on the inside of the muffler catch exhaust gases and direct them along the outside of the muffler where the hit a baffel and enter the main exhaust stream again... this is where the bottle neck forms. Kitsap Muffler installed this on my truck, I took it back and they removed it and put the straight pipe back in... . the squeal went away, and EGT was back to normal. I have no clue what the 4" Allied muffler does, but I would suggest to stay away from any muffler with any type of baffel or internal louvers. The best type for diesel performance is a perforated core type like the Dynomax Ultra flow, or the one used by Jardine. They are straight through and use a perforated core and spun glass packing to absorb the sound, not to cancel it out like baffels.
