Just got back from the SEMA show , stopped by the Bosch booth and asked if anybody was around to talk about HPCR/ Cummins ,I spoke with a rep who was boned up real well. I asked about fitration and their recommendation ,He said we told Cummins to use a 5 micron filter and their comment was we would think about using a 7 micron probably due to the crappy lift pump situation. He said the 06's Cummins have increased bar 1800 or 26,000 psi and Duramax will be doing this in 07. Piezo electric in the next few years

Better fuel Filteration.

p-Bar,

The last couple of years, at May Madness, they have had the Head Engineer for the Cummins Engines, used in our trucks, give us seminars regarding the engine. This year, they, also, had a rep. from Fleetguard Filters give us a seminar.

I asked them about the need for finer filteration. Last year, they said the 10 micron level was all that we needed. This year, they acknowledged that they are looking into finer filteration (7 micron, I believe) & I think they already had a 7 mic. available in certain applications.

The guys over at the Duramax website (Dieselplace.com, I believe) have been working on this problem for awhile, now. One of their members (Kennedy, I believe) has a system utilizing a Caterpillar 2 micron Advanced Efficiency Fuel filter.

The Duramax now has a dual-element fuel filter available 7 mic. outer, & 3 mic. inner, made by Racor. This tells me that Duramax is interested enough in the problem to start doing something about it.

I have a 115 gal. Daully Depot in-bed auxillary fuel tank which came with a large Fleetguard 10 mic. filter. I did some research & found that one of the Cat. Advanced Efficiency filters was compatible with my filter mount. I installed it back in March '05 & it's been working flawlessly, ever since. At least, now, the majority of the fuel going through my HPCR is being filtered down to 2 microns.

Just thought I'd pass this info. on, to you.

Great information, I think why Cummins is digging their feet in is because of the crappy lift pump situation . I'm sure pushing or pulling fuel through a 2 micron filter is torment on those pumps.
