Tim1,
I'm still at 1. 5. I do most of my tuning in the evening if I don't
have a customer's equipment to work on, so it will take warmer
weather before I make much more progress. I used a 12" dial
caliper to "depth gauge" the distance from a scribe mark on the
near side of the pump to a scribe mark on my intake manifold.
Then I took a reading at 1. 35, 1. 50, and I tried to take one at
1. 7, but encountered some bind in pump body rotation, so could
n't reach 1. 7. I think I needed to loosen up the rear pump
supports, but it was getting dark so I quit at 1. 50mm.
Carry your adapter with you to make sure it fits the dial indicator
you are looking at. Some automotive machine shops carry an
inexpensive but very capable line like "Central" as well as Starret.
Check any used dial indicator out for any galling or lack of smooth-
ness in stem stroke and at least 2. 0mm of stem travel.
Try and test. Your Lucas injectors will be a little smoky at 1. 7 I
would imagine, but if they are you could turn the starwheel under
the aneroid cover CCW a turn or two to see if it responds, or
control the smoke with your right foot. Enjoy the results!
