Both cruise control and overdrive failure?

Was heading in to the dealer to have the PS Hose TSB done and lost both the cruise control and overdrive somewhere between the driveway and the interstate. The dealer said they had to order some new parts (may have flashed the computer also) and resolved the cruise control problem, but was still working on the overdirve issue as of Saturday. I would have thought the two problems were related, but since the overdrive issue wasn't solved by the cruise control fix, I'm puzzled. Has anyone else had the cruize control fail and lost overdrive too?

I can't think of any way those two systems are directly related.

I had originally thought that maybe something in the way of a speed and/or rpm sensing system or component might be the culprit. It seemed way to coincidental for both problems to occur simultaneously. Hope the dealer gets it fixed today, regardless.

There have been a couple of people on another forum page about Dodge trucks having a similar problem with their gas engines. The problem was tracked to a vacuum leak. Although so far I cannot find in the service manual where it discussed the vacuum controlling the transmission, it does control the electronic speed control. There is a fuse that controls the overdrive circuit that could have blown, along with about 14 other possible causes, most of which would require a DC technician to test.

I had cruise control go out on while test driving a dually with the 48RE. Cemented my decision to go with the 6-speed. Dodge cannot and never has been able to make an automatic transmission worth a crap. This is my fourth Ram and the first truck not to have an auto in it. The first was a V10 and had numerous trans problems and others were powered by the 360 and had problems as well. The dealer told me the 48RE was stronger and would be different... ... ... wrong.

this is probably the problem mine did the same thing they replaced the computer and wiring harness under a TSB 08-031-03. also several sensors can cause this problem OD and cruise rely on several different sensors for activation and calibration.

Will be getting the truck back tomorrow. Dealer replaced two switches in the cruise control system and, I believe, one addtional device. Repair did involve a reflash, but they said that is standard procedure with this type of switch replacement. I'll let you know what I find out in more detail after seeing the printout.

Truck is back with following switches/parts replaced:

TPS and cruise switch

FP Number 5026007-AA

FP Number 5026006-AA



Both had same description of SWITCH SP 8050082



Computer was re-programed (standard procedure when replacing these switches) and all seems to be working ok.



Also, the PS Hose replacement did help reduce that "phasing-in- and-out" drone at 2100 to 2300 rpm substantially.



Incidentally, I had a good laugh when my wife and I were bringing the truck back. She was driving the Dodge and I was following her in our 2002 Silverado 1500 5. 3L. We hit a stop light and when it turned green, she walked me by about 4 truck lengths before I knew what happened. I was at WOT and barely closing when she backed off... . I've done that to some other's when I was in the Dodge, but that's the first time I was on the receiving end. I forgot to ask her how far she had her foot in it when we got home. I'm sure she would have dummied up about it.
