Heater Value install question

Morning all,

I am replacing all my heater and radiator hoses in preparation for a trip. Anyways I took off the bottom hose and a spring/wire was inside the old one, the new one I got, (made from Goodyear) does not have a spring/wire. Is this spring/wire needed?

Thanks in Advance

Brad

The Coiled spring is to keep the hose from collapsing under suction or should there be a cooling system malfunction. I have still seen them in hoses from time to time but the newer HIGH QUALITY hoses are very stiff and have alot of fiber reinforcing and probably just don't require the springs as the older hoses did. That would be my guess. If you maintain a clean cooling system and the spring is in excellent shape then just shove it into the new hose and go!

I'd definitely swap the old spring to the new hose if the new hose lacks it. The irony is, even the cheapos I have installed had the spring in them.

And the reason the cheap hoses have them is because they NEED them. It always PAYS to pay a little more for better quality. The goodyear hoses should be of excellent quality.

I am on my 3rd set of hoses including the original hoses -none had springs in them - no problems in 215,000 miles. All replacements have been Goodyear except the heater hoses, they are silicone and all have been trouble free.
