my buddy just bought a nice 92 2wd with a bad transmission, so we found a used one that was supposed to be in good working order and a "better than stock" torque converter, so question number one; is how do i go about finding out the specs on the converter, it is dark blue in color has 35 stamped on it and in large white painted numbers is 1030210. also was curious if there were any differences in the transmissions the old housing has 092 cast on it and the new one has 092-2 on it both came from 92 model trucks. i do know that the electrical connection on the end (i am guessing is a speedo sending unit?) is different but looks easy enough to swap over. thanks in advance, Tyler

i did look up and see that bd has a 1060210x trque converter so just one number off and an x on the end, and also while its out of the truck and easy to get to would it be wise to do a band adjustment?

trans service, bands

The bands never really wear. It is best to just leave them if the trans is working well. It is better to have a band be a little lose than it is to have it too tight. Occasionally a band will bet burned out. This is caused by fluid cross leaks from warped housings or defective valve bodies. It is rare though.

Occasionally bands burn up because guys think they better go ahead and adjust them to be sure... ??? And normally they tighten them too tight which causes them to drag and over heat the fluid as it burns the band and drum...

So if the fluid looks clean and red and there is not a bunch of junk in the pan.

Just change the fluid and filter. Be sure to use the correct fluid!!!!!

DO NOT WIPE THE PAN OR INTERNAL TRANS PARTS WITH RAGS. !!!! The micro lint can jamb the valves in the valve body ! Blow off with compressed air

Unless there is a builders name stamped on the TC finding its source is probably pretty tough. I would just run it and see what it works like.

Since you have the trans out a shift kit and some upgrades internally might be a good idea. I would also check all the band adjustments so you have a baseline to work from. Diesels are hard on the fornt clutches and bands due to the TQ they generate. A little too loose can cause a lot of wear.

just got the transmission changed and whent for a test drive and it doesn't go into overdrive, suposedly it was in good working order so its late now and didn't look into it at all but is there any common or simple reasons why it wouldn't go into overdrive?

overdrive problems

Adjust the throttle position sensor as outlined in your FACTORY service manual. If you don't have one call faxon auto literature and order one or look on ebay. Faxon has used books also. If you want a cd call Bishko books at 1-800-544-3312

It is also possible that the computer is not functioning properly. To test this force the trans into o/d manually . Find the wires going to the o/d solenoid . one wire will have 12v going to it all the time. The other will go to the computer. All the computer does in complete the ground circuit. So ground the wire going from the solenoid to the computer. If the trans goes into o/d when the wire is grounded . Your problem is in the computer or the throttle position switch or the wiring in between. Also be sure that your distance sensor is working properly. If your speedometer is working then so is the distance sensor.

i do know that he said he that the speedo isn't working now, but i know it was before

That will cause it not to go into OD if it is the VSS.

Ground the OD wire with a switch and verify the trans operation into OD then you can track down the lectricla issues.

when the spedo drive was changed the internal part was different as well as the electrical plug. is there somewhere we can get a new plug end for the truck to match the plug on the trans?? the guy we got the trans from said it was from a 1992 and it was put in a 1992 why would the electrical plugs be different??
