Bought a used ECM . .. what's next? DEALER, SMARTY, Plug it in and go?

I bought a used ECM from a local salvage outfit for $250. 00 to replace my failed unit. What is next? Do I have to go to the dealer to have it installed? Does the truck have to be reflashed? Do I need a SMARTY amd can SMARTY send me a recovery program? Can I just plug and play?

I'll be following this thread. I am 99% sure my ecm is out. The truck will run but I have no gauges, a/c, only 2rd and 3rd gear, a flashing odometer and a lot of idiot lights.



I was going to limp into the dealer tommorrow. There are no salvage yards in my area.



I saw on your other thead the dealer wanted $9 something?????



I replaced my ecm a time ago and as I recall the dealer had to do a flash on it. I threw away the old ecm a few months ago, dumb!!!!

Dealer wants $1,800. 00 retail but will sell it to my local connection for $1,400. 00. AllChyrslerparts.com has one listed for $936. 00.

If your truck was equipped with a sentry key and the donor was not,remove the skim module and you may have a chance,If the donor had skim,contact Bob Wagner... ... ... ...

I think that the sentry key with factory skimm module is a grey key. I'm not 100% though. That is the key with chip so the truck can't be started without the key. Tac

The sentry key is grey vs black for with out. The skim module is under the steering colum shroud wherethe key fits in.

Once the ecm is connected to a skim system it will only run with the skim module mated to it.

Well my key is black all though mine is an 06. When we put the ecm in my truck it started about 4 or 5 times then went dead at that point we took it to a dealer who did unlock the computer but it still did not run right thats when I got a hold of Bob Wagner he fixed me up with a recovery program truck fired right up the dealer could not believe it. ColemanR, when you say that Bob fixed you up with a recovery program did he send it to you as a file to download onto a SMARTY?

All of my keys are black, had the truck since new , do not remember a grey key.

Yes that is correct I already had the Smarty. A friend of mine also has a 06 that he converted to a stick (was an auto) his truck went into limp mode because it was not getting imput for the trans Bob sent him a smarty with the recovery program installed. Then he could down any program he wanted from the internet later. Randy

If you have one in hand at least Bob can just e mail you the recovery program hopefully this works Im pretty sure it will Bob said he had done a few before mine I know he saved me 12k cause I was going to buy a truck the next day

Right now I am just waiting for my Next Day Air package which will hopefully have the correct ECM inside.

Salvage ECM looks to be correct, contacted Bob Wagner at SMARTY and he will be getting me a recovery program to work with from Marco. Hopes to have it for me by tomorrow.
