I needed another truck at work, so after the obligatory checking out of the competition and prices, I bought another Dodge Cummins. Although I would have been happy with either a 600 or an HO, I did tell the dealer I preferred the "555". We don't haul too heavy and the slight difference in economy as well the 600's small teething pains (i. e. cold temp hesitation reflash and potential core plug issue), tipped the hand towards the 2004 HO.

New truck is a white 2500 ST, QC, LWB, HO, Six speed, trailer mirrors, tow package, CD player, and a couple of other options.

I wanted the ST for the rubber floors and I didn't want pdl's, pw's etc. etc. This was the only truck that matched my criteria in western Canada otherwise I would have preferred the 3500 SRW, but as I said before, we don't tow or haul heavy. Economy and longevity were the driving factors behind the Cummins choice. Fuel keeps going up by the week, but the price of diesel here is consistently 20-25% cheaper than gasoline.

Anyway, I guess I'll now have another truck to compare to mine. The long term goal is to convert the fleet over to Cummins power, but it's going to take awhile!

Cheers,

Dave

Yeah, I would have actually liked to get the rubber floor in my SLT as well, but I wanted the Premium cloth for the load flat floor and the under front seat storage in my personal truck.

No pics yet, Nick. Truck is being delivered next Wednesday. I'll take it for a drive to make sure it doesn't have any strange drones or vibrations, then I'll bring it back to the shop.

I expect it will have the dampened pwr steering hose and the updated clutch (for the early release '03 clutch rattle), so my biggest areas of concern are the rear end and driveshaft. I'll check it out esp. at 70 - 75mph or so.

I'm a ST believer too - three times over. Easy to clean rubber floor with a KMart carpet doily on top. Not a fan of power doodaws either. Keep it simple. Plumb happy with the 555 too. Don't take much to please some folks.

OTD,

Nice flat deck. I keep threatening to build one for my truck. It would be nice to have some storage boxes underneath and also to never have to worry about the paint on the back half of the truck. Maybe I'd put some LED tailights in too. ..... One of these days.

Mine is an SLT, but definitely a work truck. (ck gallery photos) Mileage us up to 124,000 miles, still going strong.

Wow EB 124,000 wow that is great to know,I hope to get many 1000s a miles also:D

The only bad thing about the ST,is there is no storage, there is no console

Yea, I had forgotten about that. Both the 98 and 02 STs had the storage in the middle front seat. Plus, where is my underhood light? And while were are at it, how come the steel folddown platform wasn't an option? Now I'm unhappy... . nah. :p

Know what you mean. I banged up both my last truck beds hauling firewood. Nice to have a flatbed again. LED light? Good idea.

My wife really loved the 2000,the glove box was big,and a big console, the 2004 has no console and a very tiny glove box,but I like it that way, maybe she will keep her junk out of MY truck... HEHE

I dought it:)

Update;

- The truck finally came in today and low and behold its a "600"! As usual, the salespeople are not as informed as we are. At least now, I'll have the opportunity to compare mileage and maintenance issues between my 555 and the 600. I just got back from taking it for a test drive. Went up to 85 mph or so a couple of times and couldn't find any drone, vibration, hesitation or ? so hopefully I'll have no issues. Wish me luck.
