Well. . took the plunge and bought a smarty from a local shop, a "certified" MADS dealer here in Noblesville, IN.

I had a diablo predator. Decided to go with the smarty because of all the hype and the customer service. Plus, I get the impression that Marco did his homework and made programs that work well.

Well. . downloaded SW5. Nice, but nothing to write home about. Downloaded SW7 and it feels better. I would honestly have to say that the predator felt just as strong if not stronger. But, I have heard that the diablo works well on the 03's. I think the RKL puff tunes put down much more power, but I could be wrong.

On the plus side, the truck does seem to run a lot smoother! The throttle response is more crisp than with the diablo, and I think the smarty is a little more "fine" tuned.

I have not tried SW9, or any of the other tunes available. Will there ever be a hotter program for us 555's??

Overall, I'm glad I did it as I think my truck likes the smarty better. And, honestly, with the stock turbo, I probably shouldn't go much crazier than the 130hp!

If you are running the Smarty straight out of the box, I think you are on the moderate torque management software. Your sig shows that you have a mod'd trans... try the WILD SW... you'll like it!

Yeah, I might try the moderate TM instead of the installed mild. Plus, I can always try the aftermarket turbo programs. But none of these will actually increase peak HP on my 03, right?

Try the aftermarket turbo/stock injector programs (wild tm):D.

I am running the software dated 12/13/07 from the mads website. The stock injector programs fuels the hardest, the wild tm will defuel less between shifts.

Have fun! Jess

Want a hotter tune?? Do turbo, springs, studs, and get the new TNT tune (rated 230 compared to 170).

And Id bet Diablo doesnt put down the power Smarty does... I dont know of any tuners/downloaders that have consistently put down more. There may be a few here and there, depending on dyno, truck, weather, etc. , but Smarty consistently puts down more power than anything else that Ive seen. Enjoy the switch!!

I ran Wild TM and its full throttle when the pedals halfway down!! Didnt bother me, I loved it. I went Moderate TM because Wild absolutely drains the tank-only cause I cant help but mash the pedal down!!

Remember, the hottest tune for the 555 is 130hp. I don't know if the TNT will even work on the 555?

The diablo reportedly put out 180hp on the rkl tune.

Don't get me wrong, I'm happy with the switch. I am just making some observations!

Your first sentence is basically true, for a stock 03/04 truck. Install a larger turbo and change out the cast elbow on the back side of the turbo to one from an 04. 5 or newer, with a new 4" downpipe and you can utilize sw#8 & 9.

I would not even contemplate the TNT/R tunes without a modified valve train, top end upgrades. Let someone else test them for a several months first, besides I am completely satisfied with my current tune.

mine came out of the box with "mild" TM. Moderate was almost imperceptible from it to me.

anyone reading this, if you are buying a smarty buy it from our own bob, I didn't and wish I had, I don't think there is anyone that helps people out more than him after the sale.

so am i understanding this correctly, the 230 program only comes with the 4K rpms? I was hoping the 230 program would be available in stock rpms as well as the 4K

some news for ya. Not a new product but a significant step forward for the Smarty...

MADS-Smarty REVOlution software

For the first time the Cummins engine performance tuning software can now be customized by the end customer. With the Smarty S-06, a first ever in the industry!!!

The Revolution starts here…

What has changed? At first sight not too much… Smarty’s update now contains all years from 2003 to 2007 for the Dodge Cummins 5. 9L common rail trucks. The new software update is smaller in size than the previous ones! It takes less time to update your Smarty.

The new update is perfectly compatible with the previous firmware versions. (Sorry, the update for the S-04 is in the makes. ) The new update will be available for free download from our website once the beta testing phase has been completed.

It is still possible to download a ready to use performance software , just like today. You do not need to become a rocket scientist to tune your truck, Smarty will do it for you.

Yet , over time your truck’s needs may ( or better worded WILL ) change and you need to adapt the tuning software to these changes.

Today, this becomes a reality !

When you enter the “ ECM update “ menu on Smarty you will now find a newly added chapter: “ Adjust Options “

Once entered, this menu allows you to choose between several items and levels of customization.

The items are :

Speedlimiter

RPM Limiter***

Shift limiter***

Torque Management levels

Injection timing

Rail Pressure

Wastegate

The levels are :

Speedlimiter :

From 25 to 250 Mph in one mile increments.

RPM Limiter*** : Two selections.

# 0, Stock value. ( Default )

# 1 4000 RPM.

Shift Limiter*** : Two levels.

# 0 ; Stock value On. ( Default )

# 1 ; Off. ( Shift light indicator will be turned off. )

Torque Management : Four levels,

# 1 ; Stock.

# 2 ; “Mild”. ( Default )

# 3 ; “Moderate”.

# 4 ; “Wild” TM increase.

Injection Timing : Four levels.

# 1 ; Stock.

# 2 ; “Stock injectors”. ( Default )

# 3 ; “Aftermarket Injectors”.

# 4 ; “Less timing advance than “Aftermarket injectors”.

Rail pressure : Four levels.

# 1 ; Stock.

# 2 ; “Mild” Rail Pressure increase. ( Default )

# 3 ; “Moderate” Rail Pressure increase.

# 4 ; “Wild” Rail Pressure increase.

Wastegate : Two levels ( applies to 2004. 5 and up trucks only )

# 0; Stock. ( Default )

# 1; “ OFF “. ( same as in the aftermarket turbo softwares )

How does it work?

If you do not want to change the default software configuration simply skip the “ Adjust Options” menu and choose any # of the CaTCHER softwares you want, just like today.

If you want to change any (or all…) of the default values of the customize able items. Enter the “Adjust Options” menu, navigate with the “ > “ or “ < “ key to the item you want to customize, enter the value you want, DONE! Smarty will do the rest.

In addition… Smarty will memorize your preferred selection and apply it to all ECM updates you’re going to do. As a simple example, you set the Speedlimiter to “100”

Smarty will always use that value for all ECM updates. That’s, until you change the value again or return Smarty back to stock.

*** Available with the TNT Race tunes only. Only for use with fully prepared engines!

Thanks man

TNT works on 03-04s... Tim Barbers truck is an early 04 and hes been doing beta tests on it and will be on the Revolution also I believe...

Well, I must admit. I am sold. The more I drive the smarty, the more refined and powerful it feels. It is deceptively quick! The power is sooo smooth and linear and the throttle response it quick, but not annoying touchy!

And what Marco just announced? Wow, who is going to top that? I am glad I bought a smarty with people like him working the controls!

what is TNT race tunes?? it says engines must be fully prepared, what about adjusting the speed limiter and waste gate to off on a stock engine, will one be able to do this,

also what is the shift limiter??

Bob is there anyway we can upgrade our Smarty S-04 to the S-06?

I guess the S-04 guys will have to wait longer.

Well, finally with dry roads, I was able to let her rip. I was rather suprised, however, on the EGTs that I was seeing.

On SW7, I was seeing 1450-1500 going from standstill to 90mph. Yes, the truck was making nice power, but I thought the EGTs were a little high?

I am NOT bashing the smarty, but even with the diablo AND the mp8 cranked, I did not see over 1300 doing the same thing? I know, I have the stock turbo, but no other device (BDTD, Diablo, even HOT juice!) made these kind of EGTs.

Is this typical? I thought smarty advertised lowest EGTs? Again, not bashing, just asking q's and stating what I am seeing!
