I have a '02 3500 HO quad cab and have noticed at idle the tach bounces up and down - not holding at a consistent rpm. Is this an indicator of a problem soon to reveal itself? Also - what is the rumor I hear that the temp sensor should be replaced due to some failures that have occurred and fried the engine??? Thanks in advance... T.

my tachometer has bounced about 30 rpm since the day the stork brought it to me. 20 thousand miles later it is still boucnicg without any ill affects

All the tachs should do it some, its the the way the computer reads the tach signal. Dodge uses a computer that does sample readings,so since there is always variable idle rpm ( no engine idles completly steady) the sample reading reads this at idle and shows this on the tachometer. Hince the boncing of the needle, hope this helps.

MINE too... .

by hearing the engine and by sight of watching the tach,

when i actually hear the idle change, it scores me that there is something wrong.

hmmmm
