I am comparing the BD tow pro, Diesel Dynamics TTPM, and the Edge EZ. Supposedly the Edge EZ and the BD tow pro are the exact same box, just different labeling. I confirmed this with BD and edge. I cannot use the boost elbow that is offered because I have the HY-35 turbo. There is however a j-hook available that accomplishes the same thing.

I would like to hear all opinions regarding these three boxes as well personal experience with these setups. Is it really necessary to keep the waste gate closed above 20 psi? I have heard that a lot of guys run these boxes with the waste gate unaltered and allowed to open at the factory setting (20 psi. ).

Edge makes all three of those boxes. DD has less timing, I believe.

I would open the wastegate to reduce EGTs and get some more top end HP. My wastegate is still opening at 20 psi with stage II injectors and it gets toasty if I stay in it while towing.

While I haven't actually checked my wastegate operation, and I bought the truck used, I BELIEVE my waste gate is stock and with the EZ, 4" straight pipe, K&N drop in with cone removed, I can hit 32psi down in IA at around 1100'. Up here in CO I hit 28psi at 6500'. I've only spiked the EGT's up to 1350 a couple of times, lugging it or staying in it real hard at 80mph+ up hill. But I don't tow much either.

just my experience.

Rattlin Ram,

your wastegate is modified if your hitting 32 psi. That sounds just about right. I don't know how the EZ responds if the wastegate isn't modified (if it responds primarily to boost, it might be fine), but with injectors, I know mine gets warm. I bet the EZ would be warm if you opened the WG at 20psi like stock, but that is my guess and I don't know for sure. I'm sure someone has run one with and without an elbow.

Chris, I have a diesel dynamics true torque power module that I won't be running. I'd be happy to let you try it out if you like.

You pay the postage and you can run it for a week :)

I have an Edge Ez and yes it has a BD sticker on it, go figure. I always heard they were one and the same before I bought it,,, must be they are out of the same factory. Mine is sitting here next to me in the box since I am skiddish about putting it back on after smoking my vp44 this summer. I think there was more to it than that though... ... plus the VP had 70k mi. on it. Still it (Edge EZ) is one awesome box. :):)

I have a ez with my hy and a stock wastegate. I think all three boxes are the same or very similar. I don't think you have to worry about the wastegate unless you tow very heavy. I have a 4" exhaust and BHAF which help with temps, but I haven't had any problems yet. The ez totally changed my truck. It is a blast to drive now. I would just do it and get it over with. You won't be sorry.

I'm running an EZ too, for about a month now, and cannot believe how much it woke up my truck. Added a BHAF yesterday too, love the turbo whistle.

I have the TTPM and I love it. I ran it for a couple weeks before I put the elbow on. It will smoke a tiny bit under WOT without the elbow. Like some of these other guys said, don't worry about the boost unless you tow heavy. I get 26 lbs with the elbow. :D :D

2001 2500 4X4 5-Spd. Laramie SLT LB Quad Black. DD TTPM, DD-Stage-1's, AFE, Bully-Dog 4" exhaust,Geno's Banjo's, JAKE Brake, 2nd (and last) lift pump, Silencer ring MIA, 3 Autometer's on the A-Pillar, Redline Oil throughout, RASP this week

Hahn007, you can run the boxes with the wastegate set at 20psi,you just wont get the full egt drop. If your not towing heavy you should be fine. These trucks run cooler with anEZ and a turnbuckle/boost elbow than bone stock, the timing and boost increase outweigh the added fuel.

Oil burner, Ive done some testing on my dads 01 auto, we found that without a doubt the turnbuckle helps tremendously with egts. His truck had DD2s ,and a comp box. We can run level 3 on the comp in OD flatfooted up to 84mph and stay below 1300 on big hills,if it drops to 3rd,the egts skyrocket due to the restriction of the hy35. But it has enough power to stay in OD on all hills ,even with 11000lbs behind it. You need to get a bost elbow for your hx35 or a turnbuckle for your hy35,it makesa huge difference, even though the exhaust is more restrictive with the turnbuckle the egt drop is there, andwith just step 2's you dont have enough fuel to overspeed the hx or hy35. Just try it,you'll like it :) . .

Thanks snow man. I am probably going to go with DD's timing box and throw the elbow in that they supply. I was bouncing between buying a boost fooler and elbow or going with a mild box. I think I have made up my mind to go with some more timing.

I can't give up reliability but I would like some more pulling power. Most people seem to get a lot of trouble free miles out of a mild box.

This is good info for me right now. I'm trying to decide what to buy for a box. Thinking about an EZ or equivalent, to go along with a BHAF and 4" exhaust, and gauges of course. The only thing that I hesitate on is if later I may wish I'd gone for a Comp. But then I think about my stock (as far as I know) clutch... .

I love this new (to me) truck, but it doesn't pull as hard as my old BOMBed first gens, so I'm anxious to fix that.

Buy the comp and don't hook up the pump wire. It will be the same as the EZ and WHEN you want more it will be right there waiting. Jake

Oil Burner, I think you made the right choice for your ETH, howeverr the SO ETC can benifit from the extra timing in the EZ/BD version. I ran an EZ in my ETH for several months. It was economical swift kick the pants. =-)

MY stock TC slipped once or twice with just the EZ towing my 27' TT.

I have since upgraded the transmission and have DonM's 1. 5's and and HX35 w/12cm on order... I may be selling my EZ and going with a comp just for the adjustability while towing.
