I believe the best way to explain it is that some of the boxes alter timing, some alter fueling, some do both (EZ). They do this by controlling the options via the ECM and in the case of the EZ it 'fools' the ECM into thinking there is less boost present than there really is (hence the term 'boost-fooler' if you see that anywhere). It basically takes over the timing or fueling or both via the ECM and data port, advances timing and/or increases fueling, hence more power.
The Cummins is de-tuned out of the box to meet EPA regulations and thus we're circumventing them, we verry bad men... ...
