They have had that problem for a long time. Fords have their strong points and their weak points. That is a weak one. But if that happened to me, I would definetely be #@$%! Glad I have a cummins
Every time I read about that problem on a Ford site someone says that is a problem for all diesels. If that's so then why do some of us get a million miles on a Cummins with just plain old antifreeze? No special goop added at all.
The more I read about lift pump problems the better I like my old obsolete 12 valve. :-laf:-laf
the problem is with wet liner engines. The 5. 9 in the Dodge doesn't have liners. It is bored like a gas engine block. The "pitting" or pin whole leaks that happen are from little microscopic bubbles inbetween the liner and the block hammering away at the metel. No liner, no problems... .....
Well, it blames the problem on "improper maintenance" of the coolant. Somebody (more than one somebody) didn't change the coolant, I guess. Not changing it on a regular basis can mess up the Cummins too.
This is old hash for the P. O. S. D. Just another design flaw that they've put a band-aid on by adding S. C. A. Phord and I. H. didn't recommend an additive until the blocks started cavitating. Then they said "oh yea make sure you use S. C. A. ":--) . This cavitation thing is usually only seen in wet liner engines. I've seen 855 Cummins liners crack at only 100k with no s. c. a. I've also put repair sleeves in 60 series detroits because the cooling system wasn't maintained with it. My service manager where I used to work(Detroit Diesel shop)asked all of us Cummins 5. 9 guys if we checked our s. c. a. level. He had a p. o. s. d. and 5 of us actual diesel mechanics had cummins(go figure )I just smiled and informed "Mr. powerstroke"that our little Cummins were fine . Doug
