Yelp, bragging a little. I've been wanting a 45 for a couple years. Till a few weeks ago I hadn't fired one since my GI issue in the very early 70's. Did manage to fire expert, but it wasn't the greatest piece I've ever carried.
Well a very few weeks ago I was back home and a local shop had a ATF forced going out of business auction and among the three pieces I picked up, one is a Stoeger Cougar 45. For those who don't know, this little dude is manufactured by one of the Beretta Ltd company's, Stoeger. Used to be made by and known as a Beretta Cougar. Beretta moved the machining and supposedly, management to Turkey a few years ago and continued to make the Cougar there in one of their Stoeger plants.
All I can say is this thing is nice. Feels great and practically NO recoil. It's a all metal weapon (I just can't be happy with all the plastic out now eventhough the wife packs a LCP). The almost zero felt recoil is due to a unique rotating barrel that kills recoil and barrel rise, keeping you on target. I have been accused of under representing recoil by buds. I started short gun hunting with a Ruger Redhawk 44 in 86 (25 plus white tail bucks thanks very much), then a Contender 35 Rem. and now a 460 Smith from the Performance Shop. But believe me, this thing is a kitten.
If someone wants a not expensive 45, low recoil and very reasonable price that is surprisingly accurate (haven't put it on a sand bag, but was consistently rolling Coke cans from 15 yards to 25 or so, very very few misses) then I recommend a Stoeger Cougar. Got mine for $350 new at the auction, but they run $450 to $499 all day with two clips. They're a little big for a smaller guy to conceal carry but I'm ordering a Crossbreed SuperTuck and gonna try.
