Well, my brake/ABS lights have been coming on lately when I start my truck in the morning. The lights go out when RMP's get to about 1200. The brake pedal is hard when the lights are on, like there is no vacuum assist. I am guessing that it is the vacuum pump needing rebuilt??? What do you all think?

Vacuum booster

EOliver,

I would check out the vacuum booster first. It is a much cheaper option. I had the same problem as you are talking about. Mine was worse in cold weather. Also check to make sure the line between the pump and the booster is not leaking or collapsing. My line was also shot. You can replace the booster and master cylinder for about $150, but the pump will run you about $600 to 800. If you need exact numbers and how to test the booster, PM me and I will look it up.
