2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission Brake and ABS light revisited

Some of you may remember that I had the failure lights and after buying a rear axle speed sensor needlessly I traced the fault to the brake controller for my RV. Imagine my disappointment that the new Prodigy controller produced the same failure after I hooked it up. I won't bore you with the details of troubleshooting but if your ABS light comes on with a brake controller installed and does not illume with it disconnected do not rush out to buy a new one.



With my trailer package I found that at the plug under the dash the hot wire should give you 12 volts, key on or off. The brake switch wire should give you 12 volts with the brake pedal depressed and of course the ground wire should be solid to ground. What you SHOULD NOT get is any continuity to ground thru the brake wire with the controller and trailer disconnected. It turns out that the connecter behind the left front tire in the little space behind the splash guard was FULL OF WATER!!! Live and learn and boost the economy by buying unneeded stuffOo.

I presume you have full ABS brakes.



I have only rear antilocks. My lights have been on since early winter, but I've traced it down to broken pins on the connector on the rear axle sensor harness. I also bought an unnecessary sensor that they won't take back.



Anyone need a sensor?

Rear ABS only

I don't think four wheel ABS was even available in 97. I'm glad about that!!

4 wheel ABS was available on 1997s. I got it. Sure wish I had opted for the rear wheel ABS only. It may stop straight, but it takes forever!

Hold on to it. From my experience if you can get 100k out of the speed sensor your lucky.
