I replaced front brake pads the other day and now my brake and ABS light are on all the time. I did not open up the braking system but, I wonder if bleeding the brakes would make the lights go out ? Do I need to go to the dealer to get the computer reflashed ? Doug

Do the 3rd gens have the little sensor on the pumpkin like the 2nd gens do? Those went bad and needed to be replaced occasionally. Sorry, though, can't help any more than that.

I was doing an EMS hub conversion at the same time an was very careful in handling the sensors. The brakes work good but the lights are on all the time, was wondering if the computer controls this. when I check for codes it only shows the word *done* no numbers. Perhaps I'm not doing it right, I'm new to third gens. Thanks, Doug

I don't know about the rear axle (haven't owned the truck that long) but the front axle sensors are out by the wheels.

The odometer code check is only for the ECM. When I had ABS problems I couldn't get my smarty to tell me the codes either. The rear is on the rear diff and each front wheel has its own sensor

I had this problem when I first got my truck and it turned out to be bad wiring to the front right speed sensor. Every so often the abs light and brake light would blink in out and then stay lit. Dealer fixed it under warranty and I haven't had a problem since.

I had my ABS light and brake light stuck on in my '03. It turned out to be just a blown fuse, #6 in the main fuse box under the hood to be exact, that's the ABS pump fuse. Not sure if the fuse number changed for '04 or not ? I slid in to a curb during a snow storm, which for some reason caused my fuse to blow. I couldn't get Smarty to read my code either, had to take it to the dealer to read ABS codes.
