Posted this over on the Towing forum and got no response, thought I should try it here as it may not be a towing specific issue, would really appreciate any thoughts on this:

Towing my 30' fiver for the first time, using a prodigy controller, everything works fine, good brakes on trailer, truck brakes working perfect. On a 30 mile crooked slow going two lane paved highway (some up and down 6% grades for short distances), taking it easy on the brakes, letting the engine and gears do the work, occassional light taps on the brakes to keep RPM's where I'm happy (no e-brake yet, but soon!). I hear the ding, then the ABS warning light comes on and the then the red brake warning light. Stop and check everything, nothing hot, brake fluid where it should be, trailer brakes work, truck brakes work. I continue on as I was only 5 miles from our destination. Figure the warning lights would reset after a little while or after I cycle the ignition. Still on! start manuvering to set up the trailer and presto, the lights go out and stay out. Stayed for 5 days and just came home over the same road without any problems and lights did not come on again.

Anyone have any idea what caused this????? 60k on the truck, a few mods to the engine, but nothing too radical. I have towed alot with this truck, much of it more weight than the fiver, but this is the first time off the fifth wheel hitch, all gooseneck and tounge trailers before. Never had the brake warning lights come on, even in tougher places with much more weight behind the truck. Could a bump in the road set off the ABS or caused it send bad signals to the warning light system?

Any feedback would be appreciated.

Had something similar happen to my 04 at about 15k. I had a wheel speed sensor go out on one side. When I was driving straight, all was good and no lights. When I would turn (one wheel traveling faster than the other), that brake light would go crazy. Don't know if this is your problem for sure, but it might be something easy to scratch off the list before going on to bigger things, and more expensive fixes.

Same thing happened to me, its a speed sensor. Mine is out on the rearend and my reverse switch in the 5600. They both been have been out of service for 6 months. I am sick of going to the dealer and telling them whats wrong and then they make sit there for 2-4 hours until they figure out they don't have the part.

Thanks for the replys, kinda scary when your brake light comes on while towing. I will keep and eye on it and see if it does it again. I checked fuse panel and all connections, no problems there. Any idea what would cause a speed sensor to go out????

Any number of things can cause a sensor to go out. See if you're showing any codes and go from there.
