I have not been able to find a check valve for the brake booster on my 1996 ram 2500. The local auto parts store only sell one size fits all valve that is supposed to fit all cars and trucks. The fitting for the vacuum hose on the generic valve appears to be 3/8" , the hose on my truck is the same size as the fitting that goes in the grommet on the booster,1/2". In figure Dodge made it that size for a reason. I went to the local Dodge dealer and was told the valve is no longer available, and that no dealers in the area have it. The dealer also told me that the booster is no longer available also.I can pr5obably get a rebuild booster in I have to but I need a check valve. I found a thread on the internet that said the valve was changed in late 96 to a part # 05011393AA for all trucks with the diesel engine.I have searched everywhere for that part # and they all say it has been discontinued. Geno's does not carry the booster or the check valve.
Please help, lmccart

There may be something available on the Medium Duty size trucks, trying to think of a VIN with a Vacuum booster...also trying to remember who made them for Daimler Truck NA....They did offer an FL70 with a gas engine years ago, we even had one but I can't find the VIN...if you can't find anything at a junk yard let us know.

My check valve mite be ok. it will hold when attached to a hand vacuum pump. The reason I wanted to change it is because sometimes after setting only for 2 hrs there is a hard brake pedal until I start the engine . I figured I would change the check valve and grommet first before getting a booster. I don't want to get a used check valve. I can't believe that someone does not make a check valve that will fit. I can find all kind of valves that will fit the grommet in the booster, but the nipple for the hose is too small.
Thanks

Hard pedal or high pedal effort may be caused by lining that is water soaked, contaminated, glazed or badly worn. The power booster or check valve could also be faulty. From 96 FSM.

Thinking about this, why not use a generic check valve? After all, it is a closed system so the movement of air isn't a factor.
